Build dates on new tyres

I’ve just bought 4 brand new Pirelli Scorpion Zeros from Kwik Fit. When I got home I noticed 3 were dated 1424 and 1 was 4223. That makes it around 6 months older give or take.

I would expect when shelling out so much on a tyre they would all be the same. I’ve called them to point it out and they said they will call the supplier to see if they can get a 2024.

My local tyre fitter says a new tyre can be sold at 5 years old.
When I had a set of four fitted they were already 2 years old, all different dates.

- No comment on this but what is the actual risk? You will have worn the tyres out before they become unsafe due to age. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Re: Build dates on new tyres

It's nice if they're all the same date code, but not uncommon for this to happen. It's not really an issue being 6 months apart on the date code. It's good of your tyre fitters to look for a 2024 tyre for you.

The thing to really watch out for is if they've been made in different countries. I've rejected a set of four tyres where two were made in one country and the other two in another (all the same make BTW, but different date codes and country of manufacture on the sidewall). My rational on that occasion was they're unlikely to be exactly the same compound, and if I'm shelling out £1K for 4 bits of rubber, I expect them to come from the same factory at least!

No “risk” as such. It was more a slight concern that it is an older tyre albeit only 6 months. I always assumed they were supplied in batches. I guess an odd one has found its way into mine!
It’s not a big deal. Just my OCD pinging a little. 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

The thing is, even though they may be supplied in batches, a single tyre maybe taken from that batch at the warehouse.

Perhaps for a tyre fitter who has a customer with a non-repairable puncture requiring just a single tyre. 1992 RR Classic 3.9 efi Vogue

Hell no, not pedantic at all in my humble opinion sir... I always check the dates are the same. Ahem well, our tyre suppliers always checks and wouldn't waste their time trying to supply me/us with a non matching set... Whistle Whistle Whistle

No, not at all - I would want them all from the same batch (specifications can & do change).
