Does anyone have experience of SVO Premium Palette Grey as a colour? In photo's it looks quite matt to me. I have matt black on my motorbike and it can be a bit of a nightmare if it scratches and you have to be careful how you clean it. Anyone had experience of this on a L405 and care to comment on whether any issues with upkeep?

Yep, mine is SVO premium palette grey. Lovely colour and its not matt at all. In fact its got a bit of sparkle in it in bright sunlight. It was 4 years old when I got it in 2021 and I took it to James at ti22 for a detail and coating. Came back gleaming. I do the proper pressure wash/snow foam/two buckets thing to keep it clean and its still fine over 3 years later. In fact its the shiney black bits (backs of mirrors/window surrounds/rear 3/4 panels) which are a bit of a mare showing loads of scratches picked up off the hedgerows in the lanes. Mike - MPx

Thanks Mike that's good to know. Only seen photo's so far but hopefully going to see it in person tomorrow. I notice your's is a 2017. The one I'm looking at is an early 2017 so only has the wide upper screen update and still the analogue lower section. Is your's like that and what is the clarity of the upper screen like for satnav and cameras?

I'm coming from a 2011 L322 5.0 S/C and wasn't sure I could stretch to a 5.0 S/C in the L405 but seems if I look at the 2017 models there is some potential. So very interested in your feedback as I notice you had a L322 5.0 S/C before as well.

Mine first reg'd March 17 so also early. Has the wide screen at the top and seems absolutely fine to me for satnav and cameras - better than the one on my 2012 L322. Its better for seeing the tow ball to align it under the hitch although the proximity sensors pop up annoying blobs of colour obscuring some of the detail when getting close. The surround overhead pics can be really useful. One slight issue with the arrangement is if you ever try to set the satnav on the move. I find I try to steady myself on the dash before prodding the screen but you need to take care that none of the resting part of your hand touches the soft buttons on the bottom of the screen or you'll jump to that function and lose what you were doing. No problem if doing it as you should when stationary.

Whether better or not than your L322 5.0 SC is incredibly subjective. For me and my use - yes its a great improvement. Its much lighter, a bit faster, handles better and has even more toys. Not a real factor for me - but fuel consumption is also more than 10% better. There's also the cachet of the SVO badge and features which brings a smile to my face. On the downside you notice its a lighter car if you tow anything heavy. Can still do it, but you know more about it than using the L322. Its also a bit lower so if you do extreme off roading (I never do!) then it won't be as capable. All fine of course for the stuff I actually need like fields/slopes/floods and can do plenty of stuff that others wouldn't be able to go near.

The worst feature is the powered rear seat back fold. That's solved a problem that nobody ever had and has introduced several...

But overall the best car I've ever had so well chuffed.

Nothing you say there worries me too much. We only do about 6-8k miles a year in the L322 so fuel costs are less of an issue in the overall cost of things, we don't tow and off-roading need is similar to your's with the occasional dirt road.

My biggest worry is the infotainment, obviously I assume it will be better than the L322's but I did try a 2019 PHEV and a 2020 SDV6 earlier in the week and the updates they have made on those years for the infotainment I really liked.... but the lure of a petrol V8 rumble may make up for that  ----------- Current Garage --------------------

Mine is also an early 2017 AB I had the infomat system updated with the new maps it's better than the older maps,
I did not change the screen to the 2018 model as I have enough trouble with touch screens, and hate finger marks in the screens anyway  2017 SDV8 4.4 silicon silver AB

The SVO pallete Grey could come in matt or shiny from SVO... Just depends how it was ordered sir... Might be worth checking before viewing?

Thanks Craig. I test drove the car yesterday. Fantastic drive and I think another 5.0L V8 will have to be the engine to replace the L322 for me. I still have to try a 4.4 V8 diesel and from what I've heard its a good engine but I think that maybe once you've had the 5.0L V8 its hard to have anything else. Fuel economy is not an issue for me and we don't tow at the moment.

The paint on this one did have the matt finish. The colour looked great but don't think it would work for us in the matt finish. We have holly bushes on our drive that sometimes leap out at you, we often drive down narrow country lanes / farm tracks and have dogs so the risk of getting surface scratches are high. The car was unprepped by the dealer and already had a lot of light scratches. To be fair to the dealer he agreed with the matt paint its really hard to repair scratches. This one will therefore be a no but at least I'm narrowing down my search criteria. My L322 has had a service and an MOT for another year so have time to hunt for the right L405 to replace it. ----------- Current Garage --------------------
