Evening all,

My beloved L322 ('53 M62 Petrol) has developed a slight oil leak.

The oil looks be traveling down the back of the engine and the running down the gearbox and dropping off the tubular support just behind the gearbox.

I thought it was the rocker cover gaskets so had these changed out... But it is still leaking

No you have a leaky o ring behind the oil filter supply return pipes I did mine a while back but now it leaks from the casting bung.

Follow those filter feed pipes down the O ring is behind the mounting plate

Hiya. that sounds promising. Could you shed a little more light on that. can this be accessed from the top of the engine?

I am going to have a clean and a look today. My only reservation with a leak from that spot is that it looks like the leak is perhaps starting higher up the engine bay ... But untill I clean it and have a look, it's going to be impossible to tell.

Yeah I had the same though for ages but the oil travels from the fan and airflow.

You could use brake cleaner to give it all a good clean run the engine while your under it shine a torch up there and have a look see.

Iv got part numbers for the O rings somewhere and or specs so you can get some off the bay.

I had another good look but the access when I'm on my back is woeful.

It's going back to the garage to have another look.

Will report back to hopefully close this off.

The leak really is not bad, it's just annoying. I can live with niggles, but a 50p blob when I park anywhere is driving me nuts!

So my garage has told me that the timing chain covers are culprit for the leak.

Apparently these are sealed with a liquid gasket and it is a common failure.

No mention of the oil filter adaptor plate.

I'm not in the business of throwing money at a small leak, and the 6 hours quoted for the timing chain covers just isn't economically viable.

So ... I'm gonna have another good look myself and then take a view.

Seemingly living with oil leaks is just one of the joys of ownership!

Any comments/suggestions/people local to Haslemere willing to give me a hand with the spanner welcome!

I will be bringing my fullfat home in the next week or so I plan on sorting my oil leak once and for all and have decided I just can't part with it after everything we've been threw together. I take some photos and do a write up as I know where my leak is comming from.

I can just about avoid ulez cameras if I drive out from where I live via bigginhill and seven oaks I keep using as my shooting car over pheasant season and fun times out.

Embarrassingly so far I've just learnt to live with the leak! 😌

For all its faults, I can't imagine getting rid of it.😍

I can't live with my leak it will.kill my driveway and as long as I turn.left out of my road and left again I miss all the ulez cameras I get it all sorted over the next 3 weeks or so ready for runs outside ulez zone and for shooting season. It will add an extra few miles to my trip but I love driving it so much I don't care
