Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster....

Had an L322 4.4 Vogue SE from new for 13 years, wonderful car, but stupidly sold it a while ago and now missing it terribly.

Fancied a change to possibly full electric so have tried out things like Merc EQC / EQB, little volvo XC40 recharge.. very quick & smooth, but just not like the Rangey.

So looking to go back to a V8, but not new, just too much for me right now.
Budget was ideally £25K, but maybe up to £35K.
It seems via autotrader that could get me anything from 2014 up to 2018, perhaps just about a facelift 2019my ?

Is the extra really worth paying for the two screens & what are the seats like compared to the pre 2018's which looked very much like my 2010 SE style. The newer ones look puffier / slightly more bulbous !

Welcome feedback from anyone who has either or gone from one to the other and equally if anyone is looking to sell a well looked after prefer lower mileage let me know. I'm in the Wiltshire area, but gladly travel for the right one.

when I bought my 2018MY I was hovering between the pre and post facelift. I didnt like the look of the seats on the post facelift but they are very comfortable and ive got used to them now. The bigger screens are more modern and worth the upgrade. Having to screen tap is a bit of a nuisance rather than old fashioned buttons

Personally, i'd go for the facelift. I was considering selling mine but after the ht they've taken on the resale I'm keeping it til the end of the year. First time FFRR owner

The facelift was 2018MY. There's no doubt that there's more cachez the newer you get and the facelift updates are what the cognicenti look for. Of course for the vast majority of the great unwashed, they cant even tell the difference between a Sport and FF so it would all be lost on them. For me I was very happy with the 2017 (couldn't afford a MY18 anyway).

Some are very hung up on the subtle changes to infotainment - mine is very rarely on so I wouldn't notice and I don't use carplay anyway. You need to look for the MY that gets you what you want or research after market options that can be added to earlier cars. For me, must haves were Towbar/HUD/Steps and not Black/Black which is the most common colour combo.

IMO once you're talking about getting a £100k+ car for £30k its going to have been used enough to be worth buying almost entirely on condition and verifiable maintenance rather than age/milage. Regularly used but not abused is far better than a 10k mile car that's "never needed a service". They're not common, but still plenty about so just wait for one of your spec to come up. Mike - MPx

Personally, if the infotainment is all you're really interested in, save the money and go for an earlier model, giving you a nice wedge for any potential repairs, because you can change it to the newest new style:

I'm intrigued by this MHEV engine, seems going up to about £40k could get just a 3 year old one. Anyone had that ? I'm going to be doing short runs mostly (about 20 miles per run), but on 60mph roads so maybe something like that would be a better option than getting the lovely old V8 like I had before...

I'm not a fan of black/black either, bit too gangsta for me

2018+ have Ultra wide band technology and have just been all recalled this year to have the security update making them a little bit more difficult to steal.
It looks better externally, it has a better nav system (https://www.landrover.here.com/index.php) which you can update each month if you subscribe and has traffic etc.

Knowing what I know now lol I would have gone for petrol, the older 3L diesels have a crankshaft weakness both (4.4L) suffer oil dilution caused by DPF regenerations, check car has full service history and has had interim oil changes because its not possible to go 16k miles between services ( ) especially if you do a lot of short journeys I am lucky to get 3-4k miles before service message pops up.


But if you do buy, get a Ghost2 immobiliser immediately and check the insurance quotes before you jump in.

Thanks Kot. I never had an issue with the dpf on my previous 4.4 TDV8 , yet the first three years of it's life I did maybe 6,000 miles in total, all very short runs.
Maybe some things have changed when they put it in the L405 ?
This is only going to get used for similar short journeys, probably less than 20 miles, but will be doing 60mph in places.
I'm starting to wonder about the MHEV or PHEV but have no idea on what those are like.

I do similar mileage, and in hindsight I should have gone for the petrol v8. It has to be the v8 though 😁

My MY17 has the updated infotainment system and drivers display but the old seats and suits me just fine  Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
Had- 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black
Had - 2007 S/C in Stornoway Grey

I would agree also - short trips go for a petrol V8, as great as the SDV8 is. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Very late 16 early 17 as stated so you get the wide screen and I think the sat nav was finally displayed on the driver display with that MY. I personally prefer the interior before the multi screens but unfortunately a year too early for LED head lights which I think are one of the best things to be introduced into car technology.
