4.4TDV8 Wheel bearing type and replacement

Hi guys

Sorry if this was covered before as I've searched the forum but didn't spot anything on the site.

I have a droning noise when turning right, I see someone else had this and it looked like bearings. My car is at 135k miles so very possible its time to change.

My question is, on all the videos I have seen for the L322 its a hub type bearing but when I search for parts for the 4.4 it seems to be a loose bearing type. Can I just double check this with ye, is the 4.4 a bearing only replacement and you reuse the other components? Also is this a pig of a job?!

I have brake shields that are damaged or came off so I am thinking of doing the bearings, brake pads, discs and shield on both fronts all in one go. Debating whether to just let someone else do it as I am pretty much working 7 days a week at the moment.

hi

i have just done my front wheel bearing (3.6 ) and yes the bearing is the push in push out style ,i think the videos you have seen relate to the l320 (sport) which is the easier one .what i did was buy a second hub , a new bearing and i also got new control arms upper/lower and ball joint and nuts/bolts and just replaced the lot sooooooooooooo much simpler .

The replaceable bearing is the same as earlier L322s.

For what its worth my advice would be get it done sooner rather than later, given the damage a bad wheel bearing can do and possible consequences.

No question there DRF, for the small cost of €46 a side its a no brainer really isnt it when you are doing brakes and dust shield anyways.

My only difficulty is getting the dust shields at value but if it comes to it Ill buy genuine of the dealer. Current yokes

Agreed,

for interest, here is a picture of one of the offending parts of one of my bearings off my L405, no wonder it was making a racket!! No idea how that happened but now sounds silent so thats all of my bearings done. Me thinks i may have averted a massive failure
