It's starting to look like a nice example!
Still some elbow grease to be spent but I will get there eventually.
But it runs sweet and no warning lights or untoward noises!

Well I guess the "mobile site" thingy using my phone isn't working for me.

Well, I thought it'd be a good thing to have the gearbox flushed on Fatty Fat.

Dropped it off late afternoon and picked it up again this afternoon.

Put it in reverse, smooth as silk !

Drove off and had a bit of a clunk in feel. Things didn't go better after that and on a busy (80 km/h stretch of road (without a place to stop or turn) it was losing drive. Managed to sort of nurse it to the end albeit going slower and slower and suddenly displaying a gearbox problem on the dash. Had to stop at the roundabout and that's all she wrote.
Managed to push it out of the way with the help of a friendly lorry driver and got a call from my wife: "The shop just called because they noticed oil on the ground where Fatty Fat was sitting so you need to come back ! "
So they towed it back to their shop profusly apologising themselves promising to make things right.

I didn't get very far in it, maybe 4 or 5 km but I'm wondering what the lack of oil would have or could have done to the gearbox....
I think they forgot to reconnect (do up the nut) on one of the oil cooler pipes as it was leaking from the front end.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

I'll see what they come up with in terms of a waranty of sorts.

Well, we have it back and it shifts like a charm.
We got a 50 Euro discount and more apologies.

According to them they mangled up an O-ring and all is good now.
They said that because of the lack of oil the transmission is then put in neutral by the computer to protect the gearbox hence the warning on the dash.
Sounds plausible to me and I have no way of finding out otherwise so I guess we'll have to see.

I’m no transmission expert but all seams plausible to me sir. You didn’t get far so I would think she’s gone into some form of self preservation mode. Either way, you can monitor it over the coming week/s and report back to the garage if somethings found?

My wife drives it mostly to work.
I have a VW Caddy from work which isn't bad and pretty well kitted out but it's a far cry from wafting around in Fatty Fat !

Finally managed to do another thing or 2 to the ol' Fatty Fat !

Replaced the rear calipers, pads, discs, flex lines and the shocks as well.

The calipers were sticking, I tried to free them up once or twice but bought new ones instead.
Also did the flex lines because they're not new anymore and the shocks were sweating a bit.

I changed my flexys and discs when I first got the car and the brakes have felt a bit spongy ever since although they work fine. Tried bleeding several times but still the same. How do yours feel now?

Well I didn't get all the air out yet but I only tried a vacuum pump I have and it was sucking air at the bleeder. I didn't check after that yet as when I came home from work I had to get fittings and fix a leak in the water pipes in the house. Might have another look at it tomorrow.

I bought a pressure bleeder but didn't get round to trying it yet. Some people say that the pedal is always a bit soft on the L405 but we'll see.

Well I fixed the leak in the house !

I did another bleeding session with "her indoors" and I still had some air coming out on the RH rear caliper. Went for a drive, seems fine but I think there's still a bit more in there.
Didn't use the vacuum pump, just the good old "pump and hold" method.

I'll get back to this later. There's only so many hours in a day at the moment.
