I just drop them into the metal bin at the local recycling centre, they're cast iron for the most part,

That’s odd, most of the “Civic Amenity” sites have a scrap metal skip that earns them a good few quid- yours aren’t glowing green?

I think I may have been unlucky to meet a 'jobs worth' on the day. I will try again and wont actually ask somebody next time! |

Usually your local council recycling centre (AKA Local Tip) will happily take scrap metal. If not, just put them in the general waste skip/hopper.

We save up a few years of knackered batteries and old car parts like discs and then weight them in for scrap. Usually walk out with comfortably over a £100. |

Our local scrap yard will take them, but have taken to the tip before despite listing they don’t take them. I’ve also been known to put them in our recycling bin as that accepts metal. |

Jamiehol, I never though about the recycling bin, metal is metal right? I think the guys at my local recycling base have a bit of a dictator complex and are particularly awkward however, as of yesterday, we have been notified that they are currently closed indefinitely so that makes the recycling bin all the more attractive! |

Don't know why I didn't think of it sooner but simply asked the question on my neighbourhood watch Facebook page and a chap came around same day and collected them, problem solved! |

Our local tip won't take anything that looks like a car part end off! They tell users to take them to a scrap dealer...

I generally don't ask. Although for the most part they do a great job, I'd rather not get involved in any debate, as long as you seem to know what you're doing at the tip they leave you to it.

They have just recently closed the household recycling centre (tip) for my area due to subsidence making it unsafe for cars apparently. I guess we are going to start seeing many roadside abstract art ensemble (otherwise known as 'fly-tipping') cropping up all over! _______________________________________________
