2008 SC overheats then misfire codes on all cylinders-ideas? | |
I recently bought my first FFRR, having owned a bunch of Series, Defenders and a Disco 2.
I thought I bought well - 200k miles, 1 owner with a full LR service history and only 1 small patch of rust behind the rear wheel well. It was however a non-runner as the brake lines had rusted through and dumped all the brake fluid. The engine started and ran well and so I took the gamble...
Having replaced all the hard brake lines and bled the system, all seemed good, until having driven only about 20 miles, steam started coming from under the hood/bonnet. I stopped straight away and tried to identify where the steam was coming from (vaguely in the area of the LH side of the radiator).
When I tried to start the engine it would crank but not start until it had cooled for about 30 mins. Ran the code reader and saw misfire codes on all cylinders. Coolant level in the header tank drops by half.
So in short it starts and runs fine until it gets hot, when it cuts out and will not start. There is no pressurization of the overflow tank and no sign of moisture in the crankcase, so I think the cylinder head gaskets are still OK.
Has anyone else seen this, or does anyone have any ideas where to look? Could it be failed inlet gaskets? Any helpful suggestions?!
