L322 Deployable steps - noisy gearbox

I had to drive through extensive floods recently and I suspect water has entered the motor/gearbox as it now has a nasty dry squeak when operating.
Is it possible to remove the motor and gearbox without the rest of the mechanism?
I read somewhere that the arm bolts can shear off from the body due to corrosion.

Thanks to anyone who knows or has done this. Forty years of progress. 1972-2012

The motors are sealed extremely well and a sure sign of motor failure is a loud clicking noise when they operate. Chances are the brackets could do with a good clean and good dose of lubrication. I've just bought a fatty with the steps fitted, although they was very slow at first, a damn good jet wash and lots and lots of plusgas, they are working perfectly. I had my old steps fail on me on my other car and tried to dismantle the motor, virtually impossible.
Personally i don't use WD-40 and I'm not a fan of PTFE lube either. Hope this helps.

Thanks BB,
No clicking, so lots of lube on the way.
I'll check in next weekend with the results.

That's progress. I just need step ladders to get in the '72. Rolling with laughter Forty years of progress. 1972-2012

Both my motors failed due to water ingress. These were the factory ones. I have since removed my steps with a view to replacing the motors and I have welded the brackets as both had split but I havent removed the motors yet as it seems a bit of a job to get them out. Current yokes
