Did a quick search but did not find anything...

So, we went away for a few weeks and have just come back to a MY06 s/c that wouldn't start.

I had a mate looking after it and he had started it a few times while I was away - until late last week it wouldn't play the game.

Got back today and had the AA man out to check battery.
What we found was that the gear selector 'loses' park - ie it doesn't show up on the dash. A push of the stick to the front of the car and it magically appears on the dash. (the 'P')

Obviously we can start in neutral - but thats not the point!

Anyone else had these issues?
Easy fix? Will it go away with more use?

Does the gearbox actually go into PARK - e.g. holds the car on a slope? .

Yep.

I think it is engaging park and the other gears.

Just noticed today however some 'not going into gear after turning a sharp corner'

Wondering if this is related?

Could it be a time to change gearbox oil?

Did you see my recent post re spraying WD40 on the Gear Selection Lever Linkage Assembly on the side of the gearbox?

Just get under car and you will see it and they are very prone to getting corroded and causing gear selection problems and loss of drive etc...

Hats off to WD40 - and of course Gazelio for the advice.

Completely solved the problem in under 5 minutes.

I urge everyone to have a look at this linkage and get it protected.
I thought is it was going to be expensive!!!

I too urge everybody to spray lubricate the gear linkage next to the gearbox - its a MUST DO and solves many present and future gearbox problems....
