Car Insurance…… Ouch

My car insurance is up for renewal, and it’s fair to say that it’s been a bit of an emotional roller coaster. For the past 3 years it’s cost c. £700 fully comp for a 2013 4.4 autobiography. This years quote arrived and the price had shot up to £1000. Rang the insurance company as nothing had changed with my circumstances, they admitted that the jump was excessive so reduced it to £800. I have just moved house so rang up to inform them as my renewal was due to start in 5 days. To be told that Churchill have reviewed their policy and no longer insure keyless entry range rovers. I explained that I had recently had a new renewal quote a few days earlier for £800, they said despite that because I had changed address it would be a new quote and that it triggers their policy of no longer insuring range rovers. I range a number of companies, such as direct line and got a similar story about not insuring keyless JLR vehicles. I ended up going with NFU who after referring me to an underwriter approved the cover due to some additional security measures fitted to the car. Although, the quote is still double my initial quote. Has any one else experienced similar issues insuring a keyless entry RR?

Just been through this with mine was either getting refused at the outset because they have changed their policy or a ridiculous quote of 3k-6k. Managed to get it sorted at £850 in the end but it was definitely a roller coaster!

The comparison sites didn’t help high quotes or the lower ones bailed you out of the online journey to call a number only to be told “sorry we don’t insure range rovers anymore”

I hear land rover are working with some underwriters on an “exciting proposition” for insuring their cars. MY23 PHEV HSE

Ye, it was quite telling as they were mainly companies that I had never heard before. Lowest quote was £1800, highest was £11,500

Whoever thought up the idea of keyless entry on cars needs shooting. Are people really that lazy they don't want to push a teeny tiny button on a key fob to unlock a car and insert it into the ignition barrel?

The way it's going I can honestly see range rovers will simply be uninsureable sooner then people think at this rate

It does seem to be getting worse. A good after-market security system should help though? overfinch modified

Yes, I made lots of enquires yesterday. Lots of companies refused to quote. But the cheapest (half what I am paying now) was esure - I found that I needed to include my max ncb. Try the comparison sites that’s what I did.

Esure came in at £900. Where are you based?

Ps I can’t remember who, but someone recommended esure 👍

I suggest you try the comparison websites but it is very location dependant. I recently bought a 2 year old petrol L405, live in Scotland, limited mileage and retired. Hastings direct offered £400 but l do now have a black box on my windscreen. Not an issue for me as the ff is not used for speed!

Comparison sites and ramp up the excess, if i remember right when I accepted the tesco quote it let me up the excess even more on the tesco site which made it cheaper still. Gocompare were doing a free excess protection thing aswell which sweetened the deal

The so called specialists won't touch them. I'm not sure why A-plan or Howdens as they are now are still listed on the forum, mine was with them until they pulled the rug, i was half expecting it when i got a renewal letter with no price on it, should have just sent me a Censored off letter and savedme a phone call. Current
