This might be normal, but recently I’ve noticed cold air around my knees whilst I have the a/c temp set at 21 or 22. Its not so bad on short journeys, but anything over an hour and it becomes annoying.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so how was it fixed. I’ll admit it stumps me, because so far as I can work out the air con works as it should.

Any thoughts?

You need to pull off the lower centre side trims and see if the air flow door actuators are moving. It is a common problem for the plastic tooth drive to slip or lose teeth and get stuck. They also have moving metal strip contacts that wear and wear out. You can also check door position on enabled OBD readers, you should see the various door positions move in real time as you change the dial settings unless they are, of course, no longer working.

There are a few tube videos around of swapping out the door actuator motors.

Regretably, I don’t have the dexterity or skill to start dismantling the interior trim without doing damage and I don’t have an OBD reader, again because I just don’t have the competence to do anything other than very basic maintenance (like checking fluids and tyre pressure). I’ll do a bit of research and contact a trusted mechanic. Even though I have a warranty, my guess is they would reject a claim on the basis of wear and tear.

I was out in the car over this weekend and did some experimenting with the a/c controls. Turn it down to “Lo” and chilly air comes out of the vents. Turn it up to “Hi” and intead of hot air, barely warmed air emerges.

Given my previously stated technical ignorance, does anyone out there have any thoughts on what the issue is and how easy a fix it would be?

It may probably be the known problem of a sticky refrigerant control valve (RCV) in the a/c compressor.
LTB00693v3 - compressor slow to start cooling (5/10 mins), low pressure high side or high pressure low side, which gets stuck.

I recently had the same cool air even on high temp and got the changeover valve changed (unit cost only £40 or so). now beautifully hot and cool when required.
