Hi all, since replacing the drive shaft I have had a problem with the transfer case. It shifts normally between high and low but IIDTool gives the following error message: P 2789-0 Clutch adaption learning at its limit. After switching off the engine you can hear the TC shifting.

You would certainly expect recalibrating the clutch to fix this error. When you say “I have already calibrated the transfer case and clutch, without success.” I assume you mean that the recalibration process went as planned, it just didn’t fix the problem, rather than the calibration process failed?

Exactly, the calibration process went according to plan but did not fix the problem.

On the other hand; is it even worth the hassle to take the motor out if it's not repairable? Looking at it I think it will be a pain in the neck to loosen the bolts with almost no access to it.

Another question for the specialists among you, can the solenoid (Transfer Box) simply be removed or is there a trick to it? I have loosened the screws but can't pull the solenoid out, it's somehow stuck. It can be pulled out about 2cm against a "spring pressure" and then it's done. I don't want to use excessive force for fear that something might break off inside. |

Hi, it will come out with a bit of wiggling, the plastic fitting on the end needs to lift up out of the bracket / arm it fits in to.

LR049160 was used in the later L405, behind the 8-speed transmission. These are the part numbers for the L322 DD295 transfer cases:

Yes. Unfortunately, we don’t know what the differences are between all the different models of transfer case, so the only sure way of getting one that functions/fits correctly is to get one with the same part number as your own.

Doing a little more research, I’ve come across several references online that state that LR049160 supersedes all earlier DD295 transfer cases. More work required to get to the bottom of this, I think. Phil |
