Hello to all.
The oil was definitely in need of changing. Since i had 2 litres of oil and only needed 1.5l i flushed the box with a couple squirts of fresh oil. On each diff and box drain I let the oil drip a good time until no drops appeared.
Replaced the copper washers on both plugs before filling with 1,5l of specified oil.
Next was the front differential, this requires the 14mm allen. Was aftraid it would be harder to reach the plugs but with an extension was a breeze. Very tight but not worrying. hardest part was removing under body protection. Again released the filler before removing the drain plug.
Click image to enlarge Oil was quite black and a very small amount of metal powder/paste coated the magnet on the drain plug. Nothing excessive. Flushed again with a squirt of new oil then syringed about 750cl of oil after installing drain plug. Slight overflow on last centilitres.
Click image to enlarge Last did the rear diff. 8mm allen for filler plug and 3/8 socket for drain plug, again a bit tight but quite easy to reach. The oil was not as black as the other but was definitely in need of a change.
Squeezed 1.15cl of fresh oil and closed up the filler plug.
Click image to enlarge All in all took about 2 1/2 hours, mostly spent filing the 500cl syringe at proper levels and injecting the oil in the boxes. The syringe was quite slow and required multiple fills. A fun afternoon job requiring only basic mechanical skills. Total cost less than €100, nearly a tenth of local LR dealer quote for the 3 changes. Took the beast for a test drive and I did feel a nice difference, seemed quieter and smoother. Run through the whole range of gears high/low and felt wonderful. All the best, RR HSE TDV8 4.4 2012 Jaguar S type 3.6l Jaguar XJ8 Jaguar X type 3l Triumph TR6 1976 - Jeep CJ7 1976 |

The underside of your car looks very clean. The transfer box looks almost new. |

That's one of the main advantages of living in a hot climate and not having salt on the roads during the winter! 2010 RR Autobiography 5.0 SC 2020 F-Pace SVR 5.0 SC 2018 RRS HSE Dynamic 3.0 2014 Disco XXV 2011 Disco 3.0 2009 RRS HST V8 |

I saw on YouTube If you gently heat up your old copper washers to red hot and let cool off they regain their softness and can be reused. ![]() 2020 F-Pace SVR 5.0 SC 2018 RRS HSE Dynamic 3.0 2014 Disco XXV 2011 Disco 3.0 2009 RRS HST V8 |

As long as they're not too flattened, annealing a copper washer will allow it to be reused. I've done it for decades and never had any issues. 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.
