Sorry for the long post.
I drove through France last week, and after a rest stop going round a roundabout I heard a clicking noise, sounded like a stone in the wheel, video attached.

When I straightened up the noise went away, so I assumed the stone had gone and drove the 300 miles to my destination.
When I left the autoroute however the noise had returned, but only on lock. I put the car in high mode and had a look underneath.
Disaster! The cv boot had come apart.

Are you sure they replaced the whole shaft, or just took the existing off and replaced the boot then refit.

It’s possible there is grit in there and with a disassembly, clean and repack it’d be fine, but equally it could be done and need replaced. V8 or else ...

Hmmm, just replaced the boot imo, and made an arse of it.....

If the boot slipped, a new cv joint wouldn't deteriorate that quickly to be noticeable.

They've pulled your pants down most likely.

I’m going to take the drive shaft off and replace it. I should be able to tell if it was a new one or if the garage ripped me off. If they have I’ll try a credit card charge back on them. 2017 (67) Vogue SE Corinthian Grey

Surely you will be able to tell what they have done by looking at the invoice?
A new drive shaft is a lot more expensive than a rubber boot.
Unless, of course, you have been ripped off.
If that's the case, Im sorry for you but it does sound like more work than a boot is required.

Next time, ask them to keep the old part, or mark it in a discrete way before you take it in. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
