Thanks J, I haven't got access to the car at the moment as it's at my local garage. they've had it for a week and think they want to wash their hands of it.

I wish it was that simple. It was refusing to start a couple of time the week previous & I had read up on some of the issues, inc. you posts about the 2ndary pump. I checked this myself by removing the cover plate & could feel it starting when the ignition was turned. (& it was still working when the car died on the road.) thanks for the support. |

Im having a similar problem to this and so far we have put it down to air getting into the system where the sensor fits on top of the fuel filter, have a look at the out going clear pipe going to the engine and see if you can see air bubbles in it, the fuel in mine was nearly all draining out causing starting problems too. |
