New member / 2011 Purchase Advice Rusty Arches

Hi All!

A Galway Green 2011 4.4 has become available but I’m concerned by the rear arch lip rust.
Is there any saving this or is it too far gone, despite the quite good price on the car?

The car is a short flight away a so is it worth it…

Sorry these are screen shots from video so not amazing quality…

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Perfectly normal for the age of the car. You won't find one without this. Just slap some Hammerite over it and forget about it. The door seal covers it anyway. You should be more concerned about rust on the tailgate or about the (visible) rear arches. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

I've just had the welding done on mine and the arches were sanded back and finished with stoneguard.
Thinking being that if they start bubling again I can rub back and refinish at home.

With regards to the plastic covers that @cam-tech-craig mentions, the drivers side on mine was the worst.

Which when prepped for welding became this.

But all fixed now and treated with Lanoguard. ---------------------------------

guys

Just regarding a paint for these repairs I would highly recommend Rust Bullet. Its a Rust inhibiter and primer, it can be painted over or have a second layer of UV protected coating put on it. It will stop the rust from spreading. Im sure there is a UK distributor but it is the best thing you can use to underseal a car also. Current yokes

As has been said they all suffer on the edge of the arch so I wouldn't worry too much.
Hopefully behind the sill cover is ok as this is where they can start to go.
Mine is a 2012 and wasn't too bad but glad I caught it when I did.
I used POR-15 and then a coating of Dinitrol 4941 over the top and their ML cavity wax in the sills.
Hopefully it will be ok for few years.
