2 Tonne or 3 Tonne lifting capacity & stands?

I am having a mare this week, I have a couple of different related posts on the go and I it is like 1 step forward, 2 steps back! So it turns out that the trolley jack that I have cannot lift my L405. It is a fairly small jack and I have no idea what the lifting capacity of it actually is so I am going to have to buy a new one.

Question, for a 2019 L405 what minimum weight capacity and what maximum lift height should I be looking for in a trolley jack and axle stands? Do I need a trolley jack or would a bottle jack be just as good?

I am led to believe that the L405 is a little lighter than the L322 due to the aluminium body, is that correct? So a jack that can be used on an L322 should be more than adequate for an L405?

I cant really answer the question properly, but I had a 2T trolley jack bend and buckle under my L322.
Probably just a bad jack, but I bought a 3T SGS trolley jack which makes light work of lifting it.

Bottle jack are good, I just worry about the small footprint, as these cars do move during the actual lifting.

Get a 3 tonne one…your life is worth it! Same with axle stands get 3 tonne ones remember the old adage better safe than sorry!
In theory a 2 tonne one will lift a FFRR as you are not lifting the full weight but a good safety margin is always the best policy. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

I have a 4T two post full rise lift. If you have the space then a 2 post or scissor lift is the safe and comfortable way to go and most RR owners can afford the £2k to £5k install cost. That's only about 3 to 5 RR dealer services.

3Te.

Remember, the 3Te axle stands will probs have a much taller max height. I have both, and my 2Te ones simply can’t reach parts of the fullfat.
As V8_Bob says, a 3Te trolley jack has a bigger more stable footprint, and will roll itself under the point of load, bottle jacks are way more likely to topple.

Hi, I have 2 trolley jacks, a 3 tonne smallish one that I keep in the car and a full size 5 tonne high lift one with a removeable cross beam attachment for major works, get a quality one with a wide base for added stability.

Axle stands I have 4 x 5 tonne Drapers, with the quick release locks.

Don't use axle stands extended more than 70% available height unless on very sturdy and level ground. Either get a taller set or like I do mount on 12" x 10" x 6" rail sleeper blocks for support. Fuji White / Jet 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

I agree with the guys. Always go bigger. We buy these big heavy cars, always better to have bigger kit that is over spec rather than on spec. 3-6 Tonne axle stands at a minimum and 3-5 tonne Jack. If you havent seen the below video by project farm although he is testing US branded axle stands its something everyone should watch.

Am I the only person who also puts the wheels under the car even when on stands? Current yokes

I have 2, 3ton bottle jacks, as mentioned above using a single bottle jack can be a bit too interesting, the vehicle has to be lifted quite high and leans alarmingly on the small footprint. Using 2 jacks makes it more to my liking, but a 3 ton trolley jack is definitely the way to go. SGS regularly do bundled jack & stand deals, good quality kit IMO.

Use a 3 tonne trolley jack, and then minimum of two 3 tonne axle stands. If I take off both front wheels, I use three axle stands.

One important thing to remember is think about the surface of the drive or garage etc, thin tarmac can give way, best to have some wood or steel to spread the weight over a larger area.

When using any ratchet style axle stands, always tie the ratchet release handle / arm just in case an accidental blow from a hammer of slipped large lever bar hits the handle, unlikely but possible !

I have two decent 3ton trolley jacks in the garage and a 2 ton which feels bit sketchy for a Land Rover . I also a have a power built jack which I find works brilliant

I like that bottle jack axle stand hybrid, looks very strong. Were those expensive? It reminds me of a trailer jack a colleague of mine invented. Instead of a stupid jokey wheel on a heavy trailer he made a unit for jacking it with a bottle jack that replaces the jockey wheel. I like things combined with bottle jacks Smile Current yokes

It is good, nice and sturdy and lifts very high the ratchet clicks in as you go up which is great and to lower you just bump it up a bit release the safety and lower on the bottle jack.
