I used to work with a chap in the Research dept. who wore a tee shirt with text on the back as follows when we did open days for school kids :

I’m an enginear
I’m an ingineer
I’m an enjineer
……
I’m good at maths

I also used to work under a Chief of Engineering who would respond curtly to bad grammar in email with the comment along the lines of “Yesterday you weren’t able to spell engineer and yet today you is one”. TDV8 4.4 2012

Really can’t stand both “break” and “peddle”.

I especially reach for the bucket when they are used together. Big Cry 2016 SDV8 AB

I agree with all the above.

Whilst I can't recall seeing it often on this forum (although I'm sure it's around somewhere), the Daddy for me has to be 'Ranger Rover'. 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.

^^ Ranger Rover (and Rover Ranger) seems common enough on RangeRovers.net which does have a lot of US members. Ron B. VK2OTC

There's a little-used grammatical thing at play here which is an understandable error that's become almost acceptable.

In common usage, the addition of the 's' to indicate that the acronym refers to a multitude rather than a singular instance of the thing being acronymised *is* correct - but would only apply if there was a singular as the root of the acronym; which in this case there is not, as the acronym is itself derived from the plural 'revolutionS per minute'. Obviously in the case of TVs or similar it'd be entirely correct.

I can just about handle RPMs. What really gets on my wick is the unnecessary addition of apostrophes to a pluralised acronym. Not a dig at you, specifically - it crops up all over the place and is, except as usual with possessives or plural possessives, entirely incorrect. 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.

Just beat me to it RPM is fine without "'s" being added. I tend to forgive most of these as I can figure out what the illiterate poster means. Still can't forgive "truck" though, as although I know what is meant it's just wrong. Geoff

More Americanisms -

License instead of Licence

And defense instead defence

Being Ex-Military I can forgive the Americans almost anything but their bloody spelling sets my teeth on edge Cool ______________________________

well you purists, this might be a UK forum, but you have a lot of foreign members, most of them speak your language and 2 or 3 other languages. I guess most of you don't speak a word across the border.

Try and take part in a French discussion on a Alpine forum or a German Porche forum without making any mistakes.

Most Brits coming over to France think that speaking louder make the French understand English... Laughing and before you start raging war with the froggies, I'm Dutch Wink
