Hello to everyone!

My name it Tommaso, I am Italian (not everyone is perfect), I just moved to England, and I am looking for help to decide which is the best L322 for my budget.

Is this forum open to all and are simple questions allowed?

On another Forum I posted asking:
1. Which were the specs levels of the pre 2005 L322
2. What I should look out for, when buying that model

I was rebuffed for (i) not googling on wikipedia the answer and (ii) asked what I would offer in exchange for help.

Is this forum open to such questions?

Welcome to fullfatrr.com forum.
I think you will find our members more helpful, however you can find a lot of great information in the “Wiki” section (above) and by using the “Search” tool above. Have a play with Search, you can restrict your search to L322 areas by selecting from the menu in the Search tool.

Best place to start is having a read through the materials in the "WIKI", see top right of the forum page.

Towards the bottom loads of info on sales brochures etc, the different model secs / options ets for different years are in there.

There's also quite a lot of info in the forum regarding what to look for.
1. Rust, you really don't want a rusty Range Rover, particularly on the chassis or around the rear wheel arches as they MOT failures and can be expensive to put right.
2. If you can get hold of an ODBII tool great, you can check for warnings / history etc of the car.
3. Insurance, very big issue at the moment, particularly on 2013 to 2018 cars, in some cases impossible to insure for inner London etc.

Apart from that, just have a stroll around the forum, loads of info and if you get stuck or after clarity on a specific point let us all know.

Welcome to the forum. You will get lots of excellent advice and answers here.
If you are searching for an L322, I think most will give you the same advice -

1. Buy the best you can afford in terms of age. Mileage is not that important and a well maintained high miles model is much better than a low mileage with poor maintenance.
2. History is essential. You want to see a jeep that has been cared for.
3. Remember that the most recent L322 that you can buy is now 12 years old and so things will go wrong as they would with any older vehicle.
4. Set some money aside to enable such repairs to be carried out and look at a prentative maintenance plan
5. Find a reputable local Land Rover specialist who knows the vehicles and is confident to work on them.
6. Jump in to ownership with your eyes open and enjoy it. They are an amazing vehicle to drive.

What a different welcome! Why, thank you! I think that I will enjoy it here. Great! This is exactly the help that I was looking for, and the help that I was used to in the Jaguar forum. Thank you.

My budget is £8,000.

I found a 2003, 4.4 V8, with 90,000 miles, blue/cream, 4 owners.

Completely rust free (the first owner sealed the underside and wheel arches) except for superficial bubbling at the base of both A pillars
Very good paint for the age, no scuffs
No advisories on the last MOT (one month ago)
New battery one month ago
New Pirelly Scorpion tyres (last summer)
New expansion bottle
New front suspension (2 years ago)
A few new bushings (just before the last MOT)
New gasket for the gearbox oil sump
Shifts great up/down perfectly smooth
Pulls strongly and without hesitation
No warning lights
Excellent interiors for its age, except only for one corner of the driver seat (small crack) Very extensive history, but not at official Land Rover dealers

Asking price £8,000 - exactly my budget

Owner not in a hurry and not negotiable price. Take it or leave it.

Owner claims that it has been loved with absolutely no expenses spared and his home (and his fabulous historic classic cars collection includinga few cars with a million pound or more) suggests that it is possible (and likely) that he did not spare expenses to maintain it.

The owner himself showed me 3 other Range Rover, identical to his, lower miles, for half his asking price on Autotrader and candidly told me not to waste my time asking for a price reduction suggesting that he knows what he's selling.

Faults that he pointed out:
A/C needs recharging
N/S external mirror doesn't work
O/S rear door trailing edge seal came off
Wheel hubs paint flakes on all 4 wheels, but no kerb scratches
Center console, door inserts and rear console (between front seats) paint is flaking

I booked a full inspection (and report) from Inchcape Land Rover on Wednesday.

Is £8,000 a silly price, or is it reasonable if it turns out to be as perfect as seller claims?

I checked the Wiki here and Wikipedia itself and it is unclear which trim levels were offered in Great Britain, on a pre 2005 Range Rover. From what I understand these were the 3 (or 4) trims:

SE
HSE
VOGUE
VOGUE SE (or was this only introduced later)

Welcome to the forum. My first FullFat was a 2004 4.4 petrol with Vogue spec. I believe at the time there was only HSE and Vogue. Mine was also the BMW M62 engine like the one you are looking at and I was very lucky if I managed 17mpg!
Whilst that car sounds to be in good condition it sounds expensive to me and could end up costing more money to maintain than something newer.
No question on this forum is considered to be too simple - we all started as novices and most of us have spent many hours repairing our cars after asking for help on here,  2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀

It full fat as it’s the full fat Range Rover, the big one, the original and best… no half measures. The Range Rover Sport will probably sit in the half fat area 🤣, or semi skimmed like milk… not “proper” milk… it’s a bit of a joke on the Range Rover models really.

Yes, you have the trim levels correct. SE was rare and tended to go to Police etc, no leather and no sunroof etc…

Vogue is prob the most common on the early ones.

£8000 does seem a bit steep. Not looked on auto trader to get an idea of prices?

They are all getting older now, so buy on condition rather than mileage.

In UK, and elsewhere, milk comes as skimmed, half fat and full fat. Full fat being considered to have nothing removed. Similarly the L322,L405 have nothing removed and have everything needed which the other models eg. Sport don't have. Hence FullFat Range Rover. A small pleasantry.
