A few issues

Hi all,

I wonder if you can help.

I have just replaced my final stage resistor due to my heating fan not working. It didn’t fix the problem so I guess it’s the fan motor itself 🙁 I’m assuming you don’t need to reset any fault codes for the new resistor to work?

Also, the car has been sat for about 4 days whilst I got round to fitting the resistor. Ive had the drivers door opening and closing for a good few hours whilst I was fitting the resistor. I then took the car for a drive anyway wondering if that might kick anything into life. It didn’t, but I had it ticking over for a good 10 minutes before pulling away but when I did, most of the amber lights on the dashboard lit up! Traction control etc.. is this possibly due to a low battery perhaps or miraculously unrelated?

Hope you can help

Daz

Hi Darren
From your reference to lights on the dash I assume that yours is a pre 2009 facelift.
All variants don’t like doors being opened and closed without running the engine so it sounds like you have taken quite a bit out of the battery. The alternator doesn’t kick in as soon as you start the engine so you won’t have been charging for all of those 10 mins at idle.
You need to give the battery a good overnight charge and things should improve. 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀

Thanks Chris,

It’s a 2012 tdv8 4.4

Basically all amber lights appear to have come on. Admittedly, the odb port cable is just hanging down as I ran out of light putting the footwell trim back on but assuming that’s not causing the issue.

Daz, I agree with the rest, battery charge first. Check once fully charged. They really are sensitive to doors opening repeatedly. Please let us know if you resolve the issue.

Cheers all,

Just hope I haven’t broke anything fitting the final stage resistor

You can knock off the interior lights by holding in the central light switch for a few seconds, switching them back on by pressing the switch again. Doesn’t totally alleviate the battery drain but helps. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

Cheers all,

I don’t have a charger so could I just take the car for a decent run tomorrow to get the same result?

It’s not just the interior lights on and off which cause the drain. On a 2012 the screens come to life and you’ll hear various fans whirring / things clicking as it prepares for you to start the car each time you open the door.
I’m not sure how far you’d have to drive to get a full charge into your battery so would suggest a battery charger. I have bought a few over the years and now use a CTEK but my Maypole 7423 always did the job well (I’ve just seen them on eBay on offer at £25.99 which seems a bargain).
There can be a drain if your obd port isn’t closed but it shouldn’t be too much of an issue compared to the other things which drain the battery. 2017 Jaguar F Pace 25t Portfolio - still part of the JLR family 😀
