just passed 1000kms so road trip time (no caravan but section does say holidays)
the plan. Drive from Chengdu to Sanya approx 4500km round trip. 6 days on the road with 4days inbetween staying at resorts.
did the same trip 10years ago in disco 4.
thoughts on vehicle.
drive assist mostly great. hates transitions to tunnels
tyres a bit noisier than coopers on D4 over some surfaces.
economy. really impressed 11l/100kms ( fuel is about 8rmb per litre)
luggage space a bit limited for 4 people.
discovered rain sensing not working.
roads were very empty as in between holidays.(during holidays roads are toll free, we spent about 200quid on tolls)
have to take ferry to get to Hainan island which doesnt matter what time ticket you have they just fill up and leave so you may end up on a later ship.
the system to access needs a Chinese I.D. card. which I dont have. So police hand opened the barrier and photographed passport. quite smooth.
part of highway was closed through city near ferry so detour through local town with lots of places selling stewed cat and dog dishes(yuck) and also the betel nut is popular sold crushed with mother of pearl wrapped in a leaf.(40percent fatal within 4 years mouth cancer rate) pass.
return journey it was open.
