Plea for help - Rent a ramp North Wales / North West England

I found out today that a good friend of mine who has been fighting multiple myeloma (bone marrow) cancer for 5 years has been told to get his affairs in order as it's spreading to viciously for the treatment to work.

The poor guy has been through a stem cell transplant, bone marrow transplant, spinal surgery for pins and plates after his lower back disintegrated and more chemo/radio therapy than most over the last 5 years. He’s only in his mid 40’s and has a 7 year old little boy.

I’ve not seen him for a while so I’m off to Wales this weekend or next for a visit. He’s got an old car he’s been trying to finish restoring but now can’t so I’m going to try and do it for him, hopefully in time for him to see it done. Unfortunately, he’s not been very lucky recently so he doesn’t have the means to send it in somewhere to get done.

It does need much. A new CV gator or driveshaft swap out, steering rack boots securing back onto the rack and a few little jobs to tidy it up. I've got all the tools necessary to do it and can move the car on my trailer.

If I can hire a ramp somewhere in North Wales or North West England to do it then it would save me trailering it to Glasgow. I've spoken to a few garages around the area and none seem to be able to help out quickly. I really don't mind doing the work but it would be really nice to not have to bring it all the way back to Glasgow and then take it back once finished.

Does anyone happen to know of any such places that would hire a ramp? I’ve Googled it and can see a few that used to exist but I’m not sure they still do - probably not as I've not been able to get through to them on the phone today.

Thanks,

Your post makes for very sad reading, it is obvious that he has some truly amazing friends Sir Bow down

I have just spent the day accompanying my best friend out on a day in his classic mini, so he could attend a small classic car meet up and lunch with a small group. He has cancer and basically not very long to go. It would not have been possible for him to have attended this by himself, so I also helped out by allowing his amazing wife to visit family when I was with my friend.

Tomorrow morning I will contact / visit a couple of local garages where I am known to people, one of which the owner knows me as a regular customer for my daughters car, and my self for tyres etc - I will print out your post and show this to them and ask very, very nicely if a ramp could be hired. Currently I do not know of any garages in my area that routinely hire out ramps.

If I find anywhere that can help I will send you a PM immediately.

Should a ramp be found to carry out the work, I would be glad to assist you in carrying out the work, I also have a large quantity of tools that I could add to the equation.

In the mean time, should you find somewhere in North Wales etc, where the work could be done, please do not hesitate to contact me for any assistance if needed / required.

I will PM you my contact details just in case.
Merchy aka Rob

Bow down Bow down Bow down

I’ve just replied to your PM, Merchy.

I love how the car communities always pull together to help each other out.

You are welcome to use my ramp, it's near Leominster so not that near but it's there if you want it.

David

If your on Facebook, look up a group called extreme bhp. There's about 30k members on there primarily all in the North West so if you speak too them I'm sure one of them will be able too help you out as they have their own race team, drift team.

Try talking to Sonia or Andy grady. Sure they will be more then happy too get some feelers out there for you

Slight change of plan Smile

We're going to transport the car back to Glasgow so that I can work on it myself.

The benefit of doing this is that if we need parts, we're not stuck on someone else's ramp and it means that we can make sure it's finished before having to give it back and being stuck in hotels, etc.
