Quick Q regarding window regulator

Hi all,

I think one of my rear window regulators has gone. A passenger put their window down the other day, there was a loud snap and now the window won't go back up! I managed to manually pull the glass up and jam in a trim removal tool to stop it dropping again.

I'm intending to get the door card off and assess the issue/damage as soon as it stops bl**dy raining (the fatty is too big to fit in my garage).

Question: is it wise/typical to replace the whole window regulator (frame and motor) or just the motor? There is a bit of a price difference between the motor on its own (£15) and the whole thing (£80-200).

If anyone has a regulator/motor for sale, send me a PM. 2005 L322 4.4 AJV8

In all likelihood, the motor is probably fine - you can test it once you've got the assembly removed and keep as a spare.

A whole new assembly including motor is around £70 on ebay or £100 from a specialist like lrdirect.

Having rebuilt a regulator assembly before, and needing to wind the motor workings and tension the cables, I'd say it's 10x easier just to replace the whole thing. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

There’s a plastic clip that holds the ends of the lift cable. I had one end of the clip break off and the cable popped out so the window wouldn’t go up. I probably could have fabricated a repair but I had a spare regulator that I’d been given (in an old door). Ron B. VK2OTC

Thanks both that's useful. I'll be sourcing a complete regulator & motor online. 2005 L322 4.4 AJV8
