New?? And old

Hi All.

A bit of an update and question rolled into one post.

I’ve been very quiet on here as the TD6 has been almost perfect for the past 12months!, the only issue which is getting fixed in 2 weeks time is a leak on the aircon system, so doing a fluorescent liquid test. Hoping it’s just a gasket or pipe. Also MOT is imminent, only big job for next year is front subframe replacement at some point. Are they still available?

Part 2 - we’ve been made aware of a high mileage 4.4tdv8 L322 for sale, it’s got c.195,000 miles on the clock with full service history
(Reg is MV61AYO) does anyone know this vehicle? and would you consider one at this mileage? They’re asking £5.5k

This would be in addition to the TD6 👍😊

As ever many thanks,

That seems cheap for a 4.4, but then I think prices are all over the place at the moment. Love mine. Maybe having a drive will tell you?

That’s not high mileage for that drivetrain if properly services… the rest of the things to check you will prob know already. Oil cooler leak main one for me.

MOT bits seem to be tyres, bushes and brake pipes… nothing major.

Thanks all.

Out of interest if there is an oil cooler issue, what’s (roughly) the replacement cost at a good Indy?

Also are the turbos as prone to failure as the 3.6tdv8? L322 TD6 2003

Turbo setup is different to 3.6, no known issues but I think a few have had the odd one changed.

Think it’s around £1000 if the cooler itself needs replacing. Sometimes it’s just the seal that needs changing. Mine had the issue when I bought it and the cooler had warped. Plenty of coolant flushes needed if it’s had oil in.

Go have a look at it. It’s the longest I’ve ever kept a car…..

About to fork out for an RAC inspection given the distance between us and the car.

Two final questions;

1. Any views on longevity of the 4.4tdv8 engine? Is 190k mikes a lot or with decent maintenance will it likely last a lot longer? It’s never had the turbo drain mod or a timing chain replacement.

2. Anyone near to Tonbridge Wells able to nip over and have a look at it for us?

Nervousness on my part is linked to the mileage solely, they’ve agreed to the inspection and we have first dibs post report

The engine is pretty bulletproof if serviced correctly. One on here has done way over 300k.

It’s an epic motor.

well over 200k miles now and still going strong.
Not much risk if you are only paying £5.5k for it.
Obviously drive and inspect it though but to me it looks an absolute steal at that price - don't hesitate or it will be gone IMO. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

So inspection booked for Friday, all being well collecting it on Saturday.

However two others have now appeared around the same price with lower mileage but no mention on service history;

Didn’t work out!

Inspection booked, then a phone call from the owner who said he thought a previous pair of prospective buyers had distracted him and he’d found oil poured over the air filter and when it got to inspection they’d found oil in the coolant.

Sounds like he’d been a victim of an attempted scam, but on the basis of that we decided to decline the purchase.

So back to looking once again L322 TD6 2003

£5.5k is great value for a LOT of car
So long as most of the 100k mile jobs have been done

I was thinking my MY11 4.4 was probably worth 10k-12k. It has had all the 100k mileage items done.
