These are Duratracs presumably in the OEM 255/60/20, unless they went down to 255/55/20 but looking at them compared to my L405 ones I would say they're the 255/60s.

I have 20s on my L460 but I think a 60 side wall might push you close to the chassis outrigger in tight corners etc. duratracs are big. Let us know though, if it works without rubbing it would be an excellent combo.

255/60/20 is one of the OEM sizes on the L460. Mine doesn't seem to rub but have only used on the road for a short amount of time so far.

Any reason to have gone for the 8” wheels rather than the 8.5?

Both of the Range Rover 20" wheel options on the Land Rover website are 8"x 20". Which 8.5" wheels are you referring to?

On the Goodyear website the 255/60/20 is suitable for 7"- 9" rims.

This style comes in 8J (LR153233) and 8.5J (LR153235), 275/55R20 is the 8.5 size:

Oh I see, they come in different widths, I didn't know that. I wanted the style 5134 not the 7020 anyway, don't know if they come in different sizes too.

I bought as take-offs and they came with the same size tyres on that I wanted to fit so assumed they'd be fine. Now I check, Land Rover say the 8" is correct for 255 wide tyres so all good.

Hi - interested to hear your views on the duratrac's from an on road point of view? I'm considering doing similar- I have to visit some fairly remote sites a few times a year; not proper off road but some fairly challenging unmade roads and farm tracks. OK in summer - less so in winter.... the thing is I don't want to ruin the ride / noise for thr other 95% of the time!!

Undoubtedly they are a bit louder than normal road tyres or AT tyres, if you can live with it or not is a question that only you can answer after hearing for yourself I'm afraid. They are nothing like the noise from full mud tyres though for example.

I've done 50k in an L322 and L405 with them fitted and the vast majority of that was on the road. I don't drive slowly and in fact a lot of the time I've been doing 90+mph on the motorway and the noise is perfectly fine for me but that's only my opinion. The ride comfort is better and grip is impressive. Aquaplaning is much reduced. Sidewall flex is of course more than a 21" or 22" wheel but Range Rovers are not sports cars. I can still hustle mine along nicely.

A little bit of a hum is easier to put up with than worrying about getting stuck on a wet field. If you're worried about the noise of them however I'd try and find someone with them fitted you could listen to first. I'm nowhere near you or I'd offer to let you hear them. I don't think you'd be disappointed but I don't want to be responsible for you buying them and then not being able to stand the noise of them!

Thanks for that! And apologies for the delay in response

It's reassuring to know its not too intrusive - as it happens, I have a colleague with a (new) defender fitted with duratracs, so I'm going to take that for a spin. Different, but I'm assuming if it's OK in that then the RR will be fine too! I'm not too noise sensitive so we'll see.....thanks for the view!

why has land rover done two sizes of the same 20" alloy? our current range rover l405 has 20" x 8.5". with 255/55r20.

we are about to order a new L460. do we go for the 20 x 8" alloys with 255/60r20 or the 20 x 8.5" with 275/55r20?

will be fitting General Grabber AT3's which come in both sizes. so what is the pros and the cons of each alloy size? i cant imagine it makes that much difference, so unsure why land rover did this.

admittedly the nicer design (like Westminster's above) of the two 20" alloys available only comes in 8". 2017 L405 Range Rover TDV6 Corris Grey

The new shape Range Rover has a part called “knuckle extender” that is fitted to each of the front wheels. It is a “handed” part, so different for left or right. It is available, I think, in three sizes to suit 20, 21 and 22/23 inch wheels. It serves as a mud scraper to protect the brakes from scavenged mud.

I attach a snap from the local dealer’s system which should allow you to order the right size. They come to about £50 per pair including VAT.

Of course you could just remove the extender - older RR’s didn’t have them (AFAIK) - or leave it in place if you are going bigger. If you are an off-roader or frequently in muddy ruts, however, they are a very good idea.

Could it be that the L405 wheels will not fit the L460 without conversion bolts? The older 20 had flat-faced nuts and the new one has taper faced washers and bolts. You can get the conversion bolts to put the 405 wheels onto the 460 at about £90 for a set of 20.

Thank you that's helpful. I suspect I may have to buy one and test fit it without a tyre and hopefully return it if it doesn't fit! There are no 20" wheels for sale anywhere that I can see.

I’m sure there will be a member locally to you to pop around and swap to see if 20’s will fit. Count me out though I’ve got 22’s.

Can I ask how did the 20’s feel and ride on your previous car as I’ve got a theory that they may be more forgiving and be more comfortable than the 22’s. Plus more forgiving if you or a LOVED one gets a little close to the kerb ? 2021 SVautobiography Dynamic Black ( Black wheels need to go )
