Hi. Guys,

I need to change the rear stator bush in my gear box. .But up on looking i have come across 3 different size bushings 26mm, 28.1mm, 30mm Inside diamiter.

Below i have attached some pictuers from lables and engravings. Would some one be able to point me in the right directiion on what size bush i need to order and if possible a part number ?

Yes i have seen Phil is tthe guru when it comes to Gearbox issues.

Fingers crossed he sees this post as im confident he will know the size bushing i need.

Hmmm. You have the uprated transmission with the 4-planet front epicyclic and the 5A/5B/5C/7D/7E clutch plate combination, so you have the 1068 271 120 input shaft.

As luck would have it, I’ve only ever measured the 1068 271 128 and the 1068 271 114 input shafts so, to be honest, I’m not sure what size bush your 1068 271 120 input shaft uses, but I would imagine that it’s the bigger (30mm) one.

I’m only aware of two bush sizes (26 & 30mm), although our American friends get confused as they have to convert everything to imperial units, so you see references to all sorts of sized bushes.

Thanks for you input. When I'm back at my pc tomorrow I'll put a pic from the web page that said there were 3 size's.

I don't suppose you have a link for me to order the sonax ones please. As the one I'm finding are from the states and postage is ridiculous.

I’ve just had a quick look on the Automatic Choice website and, sure enough, it shows a choice of 3 bushes – 26, 28.1 & 30mm.

Interestingly, it would appear that you can buy the individual bushes from them, if you don’t want to buy a complete kit. I realise that isn’t much use, though, unless you know which size you need - hence your original question.

Hi Phil,

Yea that’s the site where I was looking at it showed the e different size bushings.

I think as you have given me the part number for the shaft they should be able to tell me the correct bushing for that part number.

I shall give them a call Monday to enquire. I shall update on what size they say for the part number you quoted 👍👍

Unfortunately, Automatic Choice don’t identify the three input shaft options by ZF part number, but I can tell by their list of fit codes that:

‘DRU01’ is 1068 271 128 (26mm bush) https://www.automaticchoice.com/en-gb/6hp26-dru01
‘DRU02’ is 1068 271 114 (30mm bush) https://www.automaticchoice.com/en-gb/6hp26-dru02
‘DRU06’ is 1068 271 120 (the one fitted to your transmission – bush diameter unknown) https://www.automaticchoice.com/en-gb/6hp26-dru06

Adjacent to the section of the input shaft that the stator bush seals against, there are three identical Teflon sealing rings, identified in the diagram below as 71.190



There are two options for these seals in the overhaul kit – 0734 317 256 which have a 24mm outside diameter and 0734 317 392 with 28mm OD.

The 24mm seals fit the 1068 271 128 (26mm bush) input shaft and the 28mm seals fit both the 1068 271 114 (30mm bush) and your 1068 271 120 input shaft. This is why I suspect that your input shaft also uses the 30mm stator bush.

Well i called Automatic choice today With my initial Question of what size bushing do i need. I told them the part number of the input shaft you supplied me. To which they said that prt number brings nothin up nor dose it cross refrence with ony thing on there system ???

Also Automatic Choice will only supply to trade only

So then i called Sussex Autos and gave them the same story and they said they will investigate and gert back to me in a few days.

So im still serching in my quest for the bushing size with out having to drop the box out first.

Im thinking i might hope lady luck is on my side and justt order the 30mm one

Ive ordered the sonnax set so fingers crossed but knowing my luck it will be the 3rd one Atomatic choice do.

Hopfully nextweek end will be doing the job so will update once its done

Well Up date time. To day took on the dreaded task of pulling the gearbox. Took me an my brother 8 hours from start to finish. You was correct in you estimation Phil it was the 30mm bushing. The old bush has almost 0.7mm wear compared to the new one. Also changed all the solenoids along with seals. Will reset the adaptations tomorrow and do the relearn process. But got it to 5th gear and it held there no random shifting or throwing limp mode. So once the adaptations.have been reset tomorrow fingers crossed it's all good. As even though had a 2 post ramp and a fork lift it was a ba@#ard of a job to do 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yes, congratulations on the rebuild & installation.

Generally, anything over 50 microns of radial clearance between the shaft and bush will cause excessive leakage, and you are measuring 7x this amount!

Maybe, one day, we’ll find out which particular transmission fits the 28.1mm bush
