……….not even a hint of exaggeration, -brilliant! Rolling with laughter
Not sure about Cathedral, but if you can hear the angels sing when you’re driving, you were probably going too fast Laughing

Let’s not let the conversation degenerate at the mention of a wide rear……. Whistle “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

haha, excellent.

Have to agree, the Gen 1 Touareg with the facelift, in my mind are the nicest looking and most capable. That said my stepfather has ditched the forever-breaking LR in favour of the latest Touareg. While mine will run circles round it off road, in the R-line Blacke edition spec his is a lovely place to be, and being the 3ltr v6 it is bloody quick as well!

Well, as the saying goes, 'He who snoozes, loses.'
Evidently waited too long so back to the classifieds to find another suitable vehicle. which is fine as the poor old VW hasn't been killed off just yet, sentencing will be on the 23rd of Nov so will need to see how that goes.

Not many 5.0 S/Cs about, plenty of the older 4.2 s/c, but I much prefer the updated dash that was in the 5.0.

@Calcifur:

Au contraire (Rodney), au contraire:

Rumour has it that due to ULEZ expansion in London and Insurance woes, the streets will be paved with unwanted FFRR’s, and there may even be BOGOF offers to be had on them soon! Whistle “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

LOL,
I have heard about the insurance problems.
I'll just need to keep an eye on the classifieds and see what comes up. I am guessing most of them will be private sales as dealers are unlikely to want to take them into stock.

I think next year there maybe be more than a few L405's popping up for sale in London, but that does not really help the OP

Watch out for timing chain rattle, it's at the back of the engine so the powertrain has to be dropped & split to replace it. It usually starts with just a hint at cold start...

A buyers market is all the more reason not to sell your beloved FFRR, and more “donor” vehicles will mean more & cheaper spare parts for the non-current models. Every cloud has a silver, (or in my case Corris Grey) lining! Very Happy Whistle “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

That has always been my biggest concern with the Touareg. So far at 116k miles the engine is still running great. I have tried to look after it and keep on top of servicing it. One of the appealing aspects of the 5.0 s/c is the chains are at the front so more readily accessible to a DIYer such as myself. Are the 4.2s the same?

Regarding trim levels, are the rear vanity mirrors unique to the Autobiography, or where they an option extra? As I have 3x young daughters I know that would appreciate having them!

This is a good thread if you want to know what's involved in fixing the timing chains on 5.0SC

Perfect, thanks. I haven't been able to find a list of what was 'standard' for the Autobiography and what was optional. I though the leather roof lining for standard Autobiography spec, but maybe not.
