2011 4.4 TDV8 gummed up donut

After 4 months of ownership I am working through the list of maintenance required (97000 miles).

I have replaced the rear dampers as I wondered why it was trying to kill me when I hit a bump in a bend to find that the NSR rear damper was missing its external reservoir and had no fluid in it (and it had recently passed an MOT!!).

Just finished the serpentine belt and pulley/idlers/tensioner as the belt was running misaligned and found the tensioner was cracked at the back and was the culprit. The belt and all the other idlers were in very good condition but I did enjoy the challenge of removing the radiator cowl/viscous fan particularly the lower large self tappers whose heads were so rusted as to no longer have a hex (and the one sneaky fastener inside the cowl!).

Today have been dodging the showers to do the oil cooler to try and stop the drips on the drive.

Was appalled to find how much oil/soot/treacle was inside the throttle body and the 'donut'. Filthy work to clean it all out.

There is a similar encrustation in the inlet manifolds. I have tried various worded searches on the forum to see how feasible it is to remove the manifolds/rocker covers to clean them out but have not come up with an answer.

The build up of debris seems to be a common theme on the UTube videos of the job so I assume it is not indicative of a problem elsewhere.

Can anyone offer guidance/advice on how to proceed or just bolt it all back together and ignore it.

As Craig says they are all the same but some are definitely worse than others due to any air leaks where the plastic intake elbow meets the TB

and any split to the 4 rubber connectors between the donut and the intake ports. If they are the earlier moulded rubber type replace with silicone. Also excessive oil may be getting into the intake via a breather hole in the oil filter housing which has been a recent discovery for many

Lastly make cleaning the MAP sensor a regular task with a quick blast with brake cleaner every few K miles is usually enough to keep it working optimally. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
