As above really, I have a decent LINN set up, but am considering upgrades around amps and active configurations……

You are a bit newer than me then. I’ve got Keilidh’s driven by 3 aktiv LK100’s…. Kairn, Numeric, Karik.

Had the pleasure of a factory tour earlier this year. Great place to see around but their eye watering prices put me off somewhat. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Cant help directly as I'm no audiophile...but I know a man who might! With your interest, you may have come across the HiFi Lounge? https://hifilounge.co.uk/

Thanks for that. The chap selling the Klouts had them listed separately on eBay with auction and a buy it now, we’d messaged but he was adamant he wanted to let the auction run and leave them separate so as I wanted 2 I didn’t go further. Think he will end up with less than I offered but there you go.

I have a Linn Classic Movie player in a box in the loft, hasn't been used for many years - it went back to Linn for a refurb but when it came back we had redecorated the room and whilst I still use the speakers I don't use the DVD player.

Nice one. No way I could afford to buy a full LINN system now. I bought the 2 Klouts in the end as his eBay sale fell through as the buyer didn’t read that it was collection only.

Klouts should drive the Keilidh's very well indeed. So far as I know, all Linn amps are designed to have the same gain, so there should be no problem mixing Klouts with LK100's, so you can look forward to some pretty good sounds I think! Drives:

I bet that’s a cracking bit of kit, but like most things… things have moved on. I have a top of the line Panasonic S-VHS recorder, Technics top of the range single cassette player…. Panasonic hard drive and DVD RAM recorder, Panasonic DVD RAM camcorder….. all in the loft 🤣.

I'd give it a whirl. The Linn 'sound' is there on all of their equipment, so it shouldn't be a major mismatch and they're all from the same era. I'd agree to run the LK100's on treble and the Klouts on mid/bass. The main thing is, to my simple mind, the more power (up to a point obviously!) an amplifier has to drive the speaker units, the more it can control the stop and start of the speaker cone, allowing more accuracy in the reproduction of the original signal (yes, I know there's a hell of a lot more to it than that, but very simplistically) at the speaker end (this is one reason why active sounds better, more of the amps power drives the speaker - as well as not having to get all fuddled in the crossover). I didn't respond to the OP as I don't have Linn amplification as I went Naim because I preferred the sound. But I do have a Linn front end, LP12, Lingo, Ittock, Dynavector 17d2 that I love to this day. So I looked at the Linn website to find the front page an LP12 for £50,000, what planet are they on, ok its a special but the standard LP12 seems to start at £25,000 bonkers money! Don't think Ill be upgrading any time soon! As someone with a longtime interest in hi-fi, Linn always seemed to have a very sophisticated and succesful marketing dept for quite average sounding equipment. Their foundation product (LP12) was a copy / ripoff of existing designs ( Thorens and Ariston) with some overengineering and a very aggressive marketing and uk press influencing campaign. It's inherent design flaws were then progressivley tamed but never solved by endless and very expensive upgrade paths for the user who had become hooked on the drug. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |
