The throttle plate is used to create negative pressure in the intake to increase EGR flow if the system senses this is low. Who did the remap and EGR delete? Many firms offer this but not all can actually do it properly. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

my 2p..... has the noise been proved to the throttle flap on top of engine? or is the turbo intercooler flap valve at bottom of the radiator doing it? is it thinking it needs to release stored cooled air at pressure to 'blow-off' ie to stop the engine.?

With EGR mapped out that throttle plate should be horizontal. Either the remap has been removed at a dealer service or the throttle mechanism is broken. However if the remap has been removed yet the blanking plate remains fitted then the engine would try to stall whenever not on the throttle and you wouldn't be worrying about just a sucking noise as the vehicle would be basically undriveable.

I too am thinking about the remap / EGR delete. The 4.4 TDV8 typially has well documented issues and what you describe doesn't seem to match experience of others.

If the EGR is blanked but the PCM is sending commands and not getting a relative position back, it will adjust commands else where and explain your symptoms. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

What problems were you trying to fix when you had the remap/EGR removal?
Many will disagree but I would always undo any improvements/mods before trying to find a fault, you could be chasing your tail forever without a solid place to start.

Fellas, first of all THANK YOU TO EVERYONE for trying to help.
That clicking noise is coming from the butterfly valve at top front of the plenum. That clicking noise is the valve opening and closing.
EGR is blanked with a blanking plate so...should that butterfly valve be open always and not moving from that position???

I suspect that the remapping was not done properly.
The question now is: to prove it is the mapping, where can I go in Peterborough for a new remap properly done?

It should perform a cycle at ignition off.

It shouldn't ever be flapping wide open and closed. The PCM should be commanding the actuator to open to a precise level. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Do yourself a favour and remove the plastic connector to the throttle - see this guide
https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic48780.html
and see if the plate is loose. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

No, the butterfly is spring-loaded to the open position so should be open with the ignition off.

As I stated above, with EGR mapped-out the butterfly should always be open while the engine is switched on. Hence if it isn't fully open with the ignition on then either the remap has been removed or the butterfly drive mechanism has stripped its gears.

Or the shaft seal has failed and there is oil ingress into the electronics for the position sensor...

Like this (Non-JLR) one.

Well...I had an EGR problem with restricted performance. I decided to blank it to save some money but so far I have spent much much more. I really regret it.

Is your EGR blanked?
