Somewhere I read that changing the oil filter can be a factor when this is happening, hope others will also chip in and give you some more ideas to pursue, but taking the filter out and double checking it is all seated properly may be one thing to double check. |

Have you just changed the oil filter by any chance? |

We are also seeing folks change out a pump on the front of the engine with some good results.

And yes, you can drain the secondary sump AFAIK without dropping the main oil. I'm sure that's the case. It's the plug that sits centrally towards rear of sump following engine sump guard removal naturally. Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Many thanks for speedy responses. No, the oil filter was changed back in August when I did the oil change.

Maybe but would that not be white smoke?? Blue indicates oil burning I thought??

I have fitted a brand new LR oil scavenge/brake pump on the front of the engine (and oil pressure switch whilst it was off as it was cheap enough and so much easier to access), but made no difference to secondary oil plumes. Maybe the oil filter wasn’t sealed correctly but that was over 1k ago? Clarkes did spring to mind as I too have heard good things. I am pretty handy with doing stuff myself as I haven’t had any luck with previous local specialists (not draining turbo sumps on oil changes, if the oil was in fact changed?). Ive only used others when it’s on warranty or like the rear hyd anti roll bar on an l320 where everything you touch crumbles.

I’ll go and remove and check oil filter along with spring seat. Would this give a symptom of low pressure reading until it fills back up the housing if it wasn’t seated correctly? 2011 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Ipanema sand

Are you getting low pressure warnings on startup? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

No Jay. I have had previously where it has flashed up for a second about 10-20 seconds after start but only randomly. It did it only on cold and probably half a dozen times a month so I changed the pressure switch in case it was that. Haven’t had it for a while though. I would think I would have it if the filter was draining after fitting but I’m all wars for what is causing this oil burning that clears when not under load. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Ipanema sand

Rob this is how my spring looks. The four spring legs that are on the top right aren’t pressed on per se to the post…should they be? The spring itself is loose and could just be lifted out but appears to be in the correct orientation at my guessing as I can’t find any pics of this layout just the conventional upright spring. 2011 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Ipanema sand

The four tangs on the spring need pressing almost flat then attach to the post and tap it down with a small socket. My car had started smoking badly and this was the cause. |

Thanks Kevin I sort of didn’t think it was right being loose. Fingers crossed that’s what’s up with mine as I’m gutted it’s started smoking for no apparent reason. Strange how something so simple can cause it to find and burn an oil source? 2011 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Ipanema sand
