It takes around 250ml of oil and it’s contained within the supercharger gear casing.

It’s very difficult to photograph as it’s on the back of the charger and the fill plug faces the bulkhead.

From what he told me on the phobe afterwards - is THEIRS NO OIL
on the L405 5.0L supercharger

AS it reads the Supercharger is a Roots blower
Supercharger is supported in beraings in the front cover - as the Jaguar Landrover Technical workshop

So whats all this

He knows nothing. Doesn't work in a main dealer, does he? Laughing

The 'charger has its own small oil supply within the housing

Not easy to replace, but JLR state "sealed for life" so no service interval on it

The two rotors of the SC are contained in a housing. The ends of the rotors are supported in bearings in the front cover and
the bearing plate. A rear cover seals the bearing plate and incorporates a filler/level plug for lubricant.

As others have said it defo has oil, changing it is one of those preventative maintenance items, like the claimed "Sealed for life" gearboxes some time ago...

I think they say it to reduce servicing costs and they know that it will be fine till out of warranty and that's all they care about....

This is where you need a good indy who knows the vehicles.... Thumbs Up Pete

after landing at BHX I wanted to drive and see my friends at Gaydon Jaguar Landrover according to them the Supercharger is a Roots Blower - and hther's NO oil top up at all

The older Superchargers used to have a unit

The Supercharger uses x2 large sealed bearings front and back - sealed for life.
also the Roots blower has high angle helix rotors which are driven at 2.1 times engine speed by the secondary belt of the main accessory drive belt.

found this link while away and thought I would share it

hope this helps others

Your friends are partially right… you don’t top the oil in the supercharger up…

You can however change it. There’s a fill plug on the back of the blower that you can remove. You then suck the oil out with a syringe and some tube and then refill it.

If the charger is off the car you stand it on its end and drain it out.

I’d suggest you speak to someone who knows more than your friends at Gaydon. Powerhouse Automotive in Chesterfield are the oracle of knowledge on the JLR superchargers.

I’ve just had the charger off my 5.0 and I can 100% confirm that there is oil in it accessed via the fill plug at the back. I don’t have any photos though unfortunately. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather
