Help! What's this tube?

2005 L322 with the BMW Petrol V8.

Here we have a tube that's not connected to anything. That's scary to me. I can't figure out what it might be, or where it's supposed to go. Front of the engine block near the left side. Does anyone have an idea?

I think that's just a breather, not sure for what (poss gearbox or stg else?)
