You may need to apply some fresh heatsink paste between the processor and the heatsink, or it may have leaked it's refrigerant from the chiller if fitted.

Before doing anything complex, what I did was blast the airways through with a compressor, they were blocked with dust and fluff after that no problem. Geoff

If the system is running slow and the HDD activity is pretty full on then a fresh install could help, its maybe worth a try, did a fresh Install on the wife’s laptop after cleaning inside with compressed air and applying new heatsink paste, made a huge difference to the time that the fan ran for but it only lasted a month or so Confused

If it goes full bore from the moment you turn on IE as the BIOS post's boot it will not be the OS and is unlikely to be anyway.

Dust
Cap on the motherboard going
CPU reporting the temp wrongly to the MB and also can be the CPU
Failing batts can also cause fan problems when the PSU for the laptop is on the limit to supply power to a failing cell in the Battery, try taking the Battery out and running just from the mains.

Try an updated BIOS first available from your laptop manufacturer. Far to many gone...

you might have hit the nail on the head tbone, my battery doesnt hold charge and i brought a higher mAh off ebay which would not charge or read its voltage properly , sent it back and started using my dodgy one again..i'll try your suggestion of not having battery in and see if that solves it.. Thumbs Up

I think they all have a problem overheating....

I have one sitting in my office unused now as its simply gets to hot if you try to use anything that needs good graphics like a DVD etc...

Used to like ACER but not anymore Sad

Or buy a MacBook Pro. I never hear the fan at all...ever....

I think the ally case acts as an enlarged heat sink so it never really gets hot.!

Thumbs Up Ash
