I think my brakes are generating more heat than my DPF, B.B. doesn’t like running at 20 mph, it’s much happier at 30. jaygee, i feel your pain. periodically, i have to get out of town, to run my dpf full alarm. it takes about 20 -30 mins, but some parts of the carriageway get congested, so i have to have in mind the time of day. if i let it go red, im then restricted to 50mph and a sort of limp mode, car very sluggish. its not easy to guess the road ahead to maintain more than 30mph, to complete a dpf regen successfully. also, having ulez to pay, i have to do the regen on a day that ive already paid, and be back at home before midnight, ie go out in the evening to complete it. else another ulez day is charged.

yes heat into the dpf, ie injected diesel that burns off soot...requires a constant speed of over 30, engine up to normal temps, triggers the cycle. you also need more than 1/4 tank of fuel, else it won't. |

Not sure Range Rovers (and other cars with DPFs) much liked the 30mph zones anyway (which are now 20mph). National speed limit I assume will apply elsewhere so unless I'm missing something this isn't a problem at all. I don't expect to do a regen whilst driving in built up areas or round the block thats what motorways are for Geoff |

I think you might struggle to find anywhere that you can drive at 20mph for an hour and if all you do is that sort of driving anyway you've probably got the wrong car, unless its a 5.0L supercharged (probably again the wrong car for driving in 20mph areas) Geoff |

I’ve had a regen fail after 15mins on a dual carriageway due to having to slow down to less than 30 to negotiate a roundabout in my early days of monitoring with the “Kot Kit” so defo it won’t happen at 20mph. Even dropping the speed for just a few seconds is enough to fail a regen.

I've had failed/interupted regens but it's always dropped the soot level down a bit as long as it's got to the stage in the process where the DPF gets to >600deg so it just starts again when the soot level rises back up to the trigger limit rather than starts again to get it down to minimum. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

The proposed new law in Wales only applies to built up areas where there is a current 30mph limit. Practically you would be breaking the speed limit today if you needed to go above 30 to do a regen and that's not counting the fact that the engine has to be up to operating temps before hand which may or may not be the engine oil temp and not the coolant temp which lags way behind the latter. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Living in a city, my DPF used to fill occasionally and give me the amber warning to go and take it for a drive.
