2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Santorini Black
5SC Windscreen wiper issue

Hi

Ive been a long time user of Martin's forums for all the other land rovers i have/have had, but only recently ventured into my own FF and although looking here, everything has been ok for the last few months.

I have a 2010MY 5SC and on Thursday the wipers started to behave oddly, stopping at 45/90 running a bit longer etc.

Ive seen a few things pointing to a brown relay, behind the battery, ignoring i cant see it or anything that looks like the pictures in the engine bay, around the battery "well", that seems to be for 2009 and earlier.

Any pointers would be welcome as i cant trust taking the car anywhere and loosing wipers.

Thanks

Hi there, in my experience of this it turned out to be the wiper motor itself. Fitted a good used one from a 2007 model and all has been good since.

thanks, i fear you might be right - but maybe a 2nd hand one from an earlier model is the way to go.

Did you just fit the motor or replace the whole unit, linage and all

I just changed the motor. I believe, from what I have read, the earlier motors are more robust than the later 2010 onwards ones. The original one in my old 2005 TD6 is certainly still going strong, I know because my neighbour still owns it. 2012 Westminster TDV8 4.4 Indus Silver

Ironic earlier motors being more robust...cost saving whilst raising the price!

Just to close this off, as i know what its like when that doesnt happen

I finally got a new motor, i cant work out if it was older but in ok condition.

Changed just the motor in place without changing the linkage as there were no issues with that and its easier.

Motor changing in place is possible (reasonably straightforward) and it fixed the problem (yay)

There's no other relay, other than the engine main fuse box on the 2010my on.

Thanks everyone
