Started with passenger side not going out, then going out and immediately back in.
Then drivers side started twitching when the door was opened.
Now both are permanently out but drivers side twitches when either door that side is opened.

Read through umpteen pages here searching and the cars manual but can't find anything on a reset or similar.

Is this a trip to the garage time?

Edit: accessing them via the dash screen and trying the 'roof access' feature gets some clunking noises and an 'obstruction detected' warning. 17 MY Corris Grey 4.4 VAB

I would try getting under there with copious amounts of ACF-50 and lots of cardboard to protect your driveway. Recently there has been lots of wet weather, and no doubt slight corrosion in the bushings: there are no lubrication points, so you really need to lube up a couple of times a year the keep the steps freed up. Not using the vehicle much will make things worse. If the power draw is too much due to friction, the motors will behave as though an obstruction exists, and fail to deploy.
There could well be other reasons, but try this first, as it’s both common, and a cheap fix!  “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Stuck outboard is good in a way, that you’ll have better access to the various pivot pins, and after letting them soak for a few hours, can give them a swift kick as you lock the vehicle, just keep your hands/fingers out of harms way!

Lube up didn't fix it. When it was in for the MoT they put it on the lift (two new rear tyres needed) and lubed the points and couldn't get the passenger side to work - it just twitches when the door is opened. The drivers side is behaving now.
I have to chase up an incomplete service at the main dealers (they didn't have the fuel filter available believe it or not) so might get it looked at when its back in. 17 MY Corris Grey 4.4 VAB

The bearing surfaces are not easy to lubricate as they tend to corrode leaving no room for grease to get through, best bet is to soak all the joints with penetrating fluid, even then its hit and miss, the problem being you cant really work the penetrating fluid in by pulling the bracket in and out because the motor works with a worm and wheel so wont move without power. I had to strip mine down and remove the corrosion from the bores of the alloy brackets with abrasive paper. Lubed it all with a spray can of lithium grease and reassembled, worked fine then. Good luck. Also own a 1976 Land Rover 101 3.5 V8.
Previously owned 1991 Range Rover Vogue 3.9 V8.

We used Wurth HHS2000 to lubricate these, never had one come back with the same issue.
