Carrying Kayaks on the roof - best way? | |
Hello all
We have 2 sit-on Kayaks - both of them are in the 12-14 foot length range, and both weigh about 30kgs each.
I bought a set of double-j bars for my roof rails with the vision of being able to load both kayaks into the frame for transport. However, to get 2 kayaks, you have to site the j-bars in the middle of the roof bars.
Even with my RR in access mode, it is still a mighty lift and stretch in order to get the kayak up and over the lip of the j bar to get it to sit into the holder. We managed it with one kayak, but failed to get the other one to sit into the holder, so gave up and took 2 cars to our marina last night.
So...does anyone else have a reccomendation on a suitable roof carrier system for the RR that will take 2 kayaks? I can sit one flat on the roof bars but they are quite wide and think it would be a real struggle to get 2 side by side and to then secure them enough that they dont slide off at the first junction i encounter
Towing is not an option as neither of our cars has a towbar, and neither of us has towed before (and i'm thinking i am too old to learn )
