ignition keys.......

Hi All,

This has bound to have been asked many times, but i cant find anything relating to it.

I need a new spare key for my 2005 TD6, when i bought it a few years ago i got 2 keys with it....however due to the law of sod, the spare has never been required...untill now!!!!!!!!!!.

The original key battery was nearly on it's last legs, so, as you do i got the spare out, it was bloody useless ( i presumed it had a totally knackered battery ).

Went and got to new batteries and fitted them, original fob was fine.

When i opened up the back of the spare one, it was knackered, at some stage the previous owner must have somehow got it soaking wet ( mini pcb all corroded ), and to make matters worse he obviously knew this and has had the Censored apart probably in an attempt to dry it out, unfortunately during this process the silly Censored has either lost or forgot to refit the little control wedge that controls the ignition.

So, back to the original question, do i have to get a new fob from the dealers ( approx £180 )or is there somewhere else i can go..........do you think a bmw x5 key is the same and are they likely to be cheaper.

I cant be the first poor unfortunate owner this has happened to.

Thanks

Bob

just for information, is it a 2005 model? or a 2006 model? I think you can program the 2005 model yourself, not really sure, but i think you can! 2000 BMW M5, Avus Blue/LeMans Leather Interior

if you have tried to replace the batt it must be the 3 button bmw key, the most important part is the transponder in the key, you can get a new circuit board and key case.
has it still got the transponder in the key... V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Just been and ordered the new key today.

The car is a 54 plate reg jan 2005.

The key still has the transponder unit, just the circut board knackered.

Can a transponder unit be recoded to a different car?

you can buy the key case and circuit boards on there own from ebay for under £20,00 then just put the transponder in the new key or the circuit in your old key, programming can be done your self,
used key but good for circuit board

Thanks for the info Daveo, great to know for another time, unfortunatley order the ket allready, however may still get another at that price.

Not sure of the exact price, ball park figure was in the region of £180 plus vat (retail), however they said they would sort me out a good price when it arrives......the parts lads at Stratone Newcastle are a great set of lads and very helpfull, i have bought a load of parts there recently for my TD6 and 4.4.

Just reviving an old thread.

My remote has given up doing the central locking.
All works in the key barrel and engine starts all fine.
Transponder is all there.

I've changed the battery but no joy. The led doesn't light up at all

When I took it apart I noticed the circuit board was a bit corroded.

Can I just buy the circuit board from any similar key? BMW or Land Rover?

The one in my key at the moment is Siemens.

Thanks.

The key came with the car when I bought it around a year or two ago.
I think it's the original key.

I'm trying to find out if I can buy a replacement circuit board?

Key is the old style 3 button straight key. Not a flip key.
