TD6 and Wheel sizes

Thinking of putting some 19 or 20's on my 52 plate TD6 genuine Land Rover wheels - is there anything which says I shouldn't ? Has anyone had any experience with these wheel sizes on a TD6 ? i.e Wheel vibration, handling issues, tram lining etc ?
Any info/feedback appreciated Wink

Mine has 19" genuine alloys. When I put the chassis number into Microcat it comes up that mine left the factory with 18"s, so the previous owner must have changed them at some point, but it drives smooth with no issues.

I would say that 19s or 20s would be fine. Reformed

i had 18'' when i brought mine, put some 20'' on and now i'm contemplating going to 19''...RRS wheels will fit and most of these are slightly wider so fill out the wheel arches better ...

the only point with 20'' and the td6 is the slight vibration you get stopped when in gear, nothing serious and all you do is put the gear in neutral if it annoys you.

I've just put my 20's back on for the summer months. They look so much better IMO. As has been said, there is a slight vibration when standing still for a period of time but just put it in neutral and its whisper soft again! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Have got 20's on my 2005 TD6, slight vibration when idling in gear, but it's not to bad. Have also got 30mm wheel spacers on it, gives the car a nice looking stance.

2006 facelift TD6 could be spec'd with 19" as an option - it was in the brochure - got one in a cupboard somewhere

Thanks for the replies - I have the original brochure from 2002 which states that 19" wheels were not available/recommended for TD6's.Can not really understand why you would get vibration through the wheels when stationary though Confused
Still undecided on which style but edging towards the 6 or 7 spoke versions rather than the other 'bling' styles available - ohh and second hand with tyres as Im not made of money Sad

Got 255 50 20 on my TD6. It drives pretty smooth and I always put t in neutral when stationary (got used to that after having a Discovery which was rough as he'll idling in gear). The previous owner had 19" as there is a receipt for tyres in the log book. He must have changed them not long before I bought it, don't know why.

Regarding all the advice from RR advising against fitting 20", there is a label stuck to my doorpost giving pressure for 18" 19" and 20" tyres. So it can't have been such a big issue or they wouldn't really want to condone it. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Further to this question. The diesel engine is a bit more "lumpy" on tick over, plus it generates a lot of torque low down. This would have a tendency to make the car body shake. When stationary this movement is softened by the tyres. A higher profile tyre has more give and so this vibration is less noticeable. the issue is the tyre size not the wheel size really. 18" wheel has a higher profile than 20" wheel with the correct tyres fitted. It isn't really an issue if you just stick the car in neutral, that reduces the torque reaction.

Plus the car does look nicer with 20" wheels Cool No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Just for a comparison, I was cleaning my car this evening. Decided to put on my spare wheel for some pics. The car has 20" wheels with 50 profile tyres. Spare is 18" 60 profile.

18"

20"

I prefer the 20" wheels, but have to admit there is a much bigger choice of tyres for the 18". I am considering getting a set of 18" wheels with some chunkier tyres for the winter. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

I have the 18" on a TD6 I just sold and I really like the "Dish" style of the outer rim. It takes me back to the 80's Thumbs Up
