United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Baltic Blue
460 subframes cracking?

Not that it will ever likely be my problem but I was recently talking to chap 'who should know' and apparently LR are experiencing high numbers of 460's developing cracks in the rear subframes - potential recall in the offing?

Apparently the current fix is some form of bonding a patch over the crack Shocked - surely not? 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

There is a recall already. Nice to see JLR did some proper testing before releasing a £100k car to the public Rolling Eyes

That suggests a bad batch of sub frames rather than a lack of testing.

We'll just gloss over the 20 other issues already identified (which JLR have said affected cars must not be sold until rectified) Wink

EDIT: Seems things got even worse with cars a year newer Laughing

Should be noted, JLR are replacing complete subframes where affected Thumbs Up

Glad I refused to order a new one from my dealer!! I had numerous problems with my 2018 when they launched the facelift car. How can a company introduce a luxury £100k+ car with so may problems?

The management at JLR should hang their heads in shame and resign a la Coutts!!! All LR cars from 1984

Each new model launched is tipping the style over substance ratio further to the former and many new LR customers seem happy to form long queues to buy them at astonishing price points.

LR haven’t had to try very hard for quite a few years under this model, aside the vehicles themselves, the dealer network showrooms sum this approach up perfectly, huge costs to redevelop them “on brand” with acres of aluminium cladding, glass and porcelain tiled floors but with service levels, surely the important bit to most customers, conversely slipping the other way.

After sales for existing (often very loyal) customers similarly lower priority, at least in the UK market, by way of example the potentially catastrophic failure (LR’s words in other markets) of the L405 suspension arm ball joint, yet no recall issued to replace them.

I’m an LR enthusiast but watch on with increasing disbelief at how LR is going about it’s business. Jonathan

Last sentence sums up the situation perfectly

Parts delays are an ever increasing frustration too. Its worse now than it was during lockdown, when the whole world shut down. Even basic service items are unavailable as genuine parts Rolling Eyes

Those of us who buy second hand are no longer in a such a disadvantaged position. Used to be the car you buy 'may' have issues due to the actions of the previous owner (and at least there are extended warranties), now it is a certainty that if you but a new LR it 'will' have issues.

Easier pill to swallow if you have spend 30k not 100k.

LR component development is clearly fubard - hence likely the reason there is currently a massive recruitment drive in this field.

If such fundamental components as sub frames fail Lord only knows what faults will appear in the battery power supply side. 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Don't think there's anything new here from LR, does anyone remember the P38?

They had more than their fair share of problems and took a long time to iron out, some say they never did.

Mines just gone back in for an indefinite amount of time to work through my 13 outstanding concerns and some recalls. I have not had a single day of fault free ownership since i collected it.

I am at the point now where i may well have a discussion about handing the keys back.

Long time LR owner so I'm eyes wide open when purchasing but it gets to a point. MY23 PHEV HSE

JCW's post is absolutely spot on.

Just on the dealers and the showroom upgrades, they don't tend to get much praise/sympathy on here, but LR forcing them to spend very substantial sums on the upgrades and then saying LR will move from a franchise model to an agency model might be quite hard on the dealers too. it will remain to be seen what happens with that, but if it does not work for the dealers service may be adversely affected. Only Range Rovers since 1988
