MOT pass standards for tyres are not very good. Tyre age should be taken into account as the compound hardens and looses grip with excessive age. Wet braking ability drops dramatically past 4mm of tread depth not the legal 1.6mm. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

You may be interested to know the EU were mulling the idea of making cars retain the same tyres/make as the ones fitted on first delivery. I don’t know how far they got with it. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc He who dies with the most toys wins... |

It would have to be, at a minimum, manufacturer approved tyres, otherwise no-one could swap to winter tyres.....

I understand on high end performance cars, tyre tech is important but surely an AO tyre on the family A3 can't be massively different to an NO or MO marked tyre can it?

It’s not a great problem, but it’s an effing pet hate of mine - mixed tyres - I’d just buy a complete new set and sell off the take offs on eBay. Why drive a car of that weight and value on mixed tyres. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17 |

In many parts of the EU ( more a country by country thing) there are stricter rules on what tyres you can fit. AFAIK in France you have to stick to the OE size so no 255/55 R20 tyres on L322's for instance.There has been much talk of 'homogolation' and how certain tyres are co developed between tyre and car manufacturer to perform optimaly and this 'may' be the case with JLR and Pirrelli. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Motobility/Kwikfit are noted for this. Mrs Thomas insists on matching tyres all round & has had to quote Tyre Companies Websites (including, guess who - Kwikfit) and the vehicle manufactures websites. However, Kwikfit think they know better which is why I'm banned from the two nearest Kwikfits ! |

I find my Pirelli tyres very noisy. Not so bad on smooth Tarmac. |
