Mick,

Yes this was the XJ L , with the diesel engine though Shocked

However it was pretty darned rapid, especially in 'Red Angry Dials' mode. Very Happy

As it was fully run in at 3000 miles + I gave it some stick, some REAL stick, took me back to my M5 days, I just LOVE throwing a car around fast country roads at speed. Cool

Gazellio tells me I drive my FFRR fast, so you can guess that in a good saloon with decent road holding I'd not be hanging about.

I'll post some more photos from my day soon. Discovery 4 HSE

I like it from the front, but the rear end is completely hideous! It looks like a Citroen! Shame because I do love Jaaags. Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

I recognise those steering wheel buttons!! I thought the RR was done robbing parts bins from other cars!?

The back end grows on you. I was not a fan in the early days but it works well for the boot etc.

Snippet of trivia to go with the car; it was released as the LWB before the SWB came out.

Had a couple of these as loaners and I love them, especially the premium B&W sound system. The 3.0 diesel S is a stonking motor which still returns 40+mpg. (SWMBO has this engine in her XF)

But, if I had this kind of money, it'd be the XFR every time for me I reckon. That IS an M5 eating machine yet it retains all the class & panache of the Jag, something the Kraut-mobile will never have.

Noting the contours of the walnut in this pic, remind you of anything???? Riva Aquarama maybe??? It was stuff like this which impressed me when I first saw it, the way all the lines flow so beautifully.

The one thing that surprised me about the spec of this demo car was that there's no RSE.

The rear passengers get bags of space and their own tray tables and pop down vanity mirrors and air conditioning, heated and cooled seats but nothing to do!

Also, the rear seats didn't recline and the window nets are a bit silly, I'd rather just have privacy glass, the car looks better for it, especially with the all black glass roof panels. Discovery 4 HSE

I thought more Rover 200....

That's the only part I don't like about it. I dunno if it's just because of the blue dash, maybe against black woould look nicer?

Apart from that, they're a very smart motor. 2006 Mercedes CLS

What is this 200 you speak of? Is this some kind of underling mobile? Whistle

At least the Jag is real walnut veneer............. and a full piece of it too; they didn't stop halfway cos they ran out of cash Wink

Whereas everything since the demise of the P6 to come with a Rover badge on it has been crappier than secondhand bog roll and has exhibited build quality lower than a snake's belly in a mud rut.

The lines are really nice although possibly agree about the colours. But that's personal choice, not the inherent design of the car. It is, as they say, a most civilised place to be Thumbs Up

Dan, I'd love to agree with you but TBH they would have found a way of screwing that up as well. I'm just thankful that Jaguar & Land Rover were rescued from going down with them. Come the end, what made up Rover was truly the dregs of British Leyland.
