Height adjust toggle 'locked' even with full charge

Fitted a new battery before christmas to our 2003 TD6 and as its not used sometime for a fortnight or more at a time, we connect it up to trickle charge with a C-TEK MSX 5.0 charger.

Even after its been on charge for a few days (charger showing full LED's illuminated) as soon as you unplug it and start the car, the height adjust toggle 'lock' button illuminates straight away, meaning no height adjustment can be made.

Tried the left to right with steering to reset but still stays illuminated.

What else should I be looking at please? Not a major issue, but it is easier to lower it to access mode when parking up as mrs isn't the tallest of females Whistle

That is a hard fault and will remain until cleared by a diagnostic tool... Thumbs Up Pete

Thanks Haylands. Just been out and cleared it with my iCarSoft tool, turned the car off and on again, did the left to right and it cleared (the toggle button was no longer locked/illuminated).

I pressed the access height button on drivers door and it started to lower, then ‘bong’, height adjust locked again (I’m guessing locked at a lower height than normal). Scanned again and for Air Suspension it came up with a CAN bus fault.

If we drive it I’m assuming the suspension will return to normal height, even though it locked at a lower ride height?

And CAN bus fault on air suspension could be a multitude of things? Big Cry

IIRC there was always a can bus fault on the early cars... LR wouldn't pay BMW to remove it, it didn't make any difference though...!!!

If it faults when lowering it's usually the filter on the pump not able to exhaust the air fast enough... Not sure about your diagnostic tool, some can only read some faults so you may have others.... Thumbs Up Pete

I thought when it logged a hard fault all the lights went out, every day is a school day 🤣. Agree with Pete, seems like it’s not lowering fast enough and causing a fault, I drilled a little hole in the exhaust filter on the compressor and never had an issue since. Worth a check. Though I get it’s not the “proper” fix. Some folk have cleaned the filter with success but didn’t work for me.
