10MY electronics backwards compatibility

OK, just thinking aloud here (and probably looking to someone like Daveo or BBS-SPY for the definitive)

Had the use of a new Jag XF the other day. Very similar electronics to the RR, (it's ostensibly a D4 in a different body) and the touchscreen now has the DAB, IPOD and USB options on it. All good.

Anyway, I have kind of assumed that this is now in the FFRR as well ?? (Rich B'stids with 2010MY or later please feel free to confirm Smile)

If this is the case, how theoretically practical would it be to retro-fit to a 2007MY ? I know there is the IPOD kit from LR but more interested in the DAB radio to be honest (Radio 4 Extra not on FM). USB might be nice too but mainly the DAB part.

Cheers

Dom

the price of the unit would be extortionate...you wont find it on ebay and imagine the cost at the dealer..

Appreciate that Stan but already seen a 5.0 S/C in a breakers yard. There are some crashed ones about which would have the bits. Not cheap but cheaper than new for sure. Just not sure if it can be made to work.

IIRC there might have been an update to one of the data busses which involved a speed or protocol change...?? Not sure. Adding interfaces probably isn't a big deal but adding the DAB module might be onerous unless it replaces the existing FM unit.

from memory i believe that pre 10MY range rovers used a 29 bit CAN BUS system were as 10MY onwards they now use a 11 bit CAN BUS system and the two are not interchangeable.

If manufacturers made everything compatible in older model years nobody would have the incentive to upgrade!

10MY was a big year for electrics in the full size range rover it was the year land rover basically removed all traces of the original BMW electronics design up till them most things in the 02-09 range rovers were interchangeable excluding the infotainment and drive train systems. 10MY saw the replacement of all the HVAC, lighting etc... ECUs replaced with the Jaguar/Ford equivalents which is why in the Microcat part system 10MY and onwards vehicles are listed as a different vehicle to the 02-09 vehicle.
