L405 Climate seats efficiency

I sold my L322 5.0sc a while back and have to say that I have really missed it. So, it's time to get back into RR ownership again - this time with an L405 and hopefully an SVA. Reading around the forum, the late 2017 seems to be a sweet spot for many and that seems to fit in with my budget.

I have been to see a couple of cars which were ok and seem to have been reasonably well maintained but did not come up to my standards. But what I did notice on both cars was just how weak the seat cooling was. Both cars had front and rear heating/cooling and the cooling on all 4 seats was the same. The seats felt a bit cooler after about 10 minutes of running, but you can barely feel it when you are actually sat in the seats. The seat heating in both cars worked quite well, relatively quickly. Oh - I could hear fans in all the peltier cells running in both cars and the front seat filters in both cars were not too filthy.

I am sure the seats in my L322 cooled down to a noticeable level in a reasonable period of time.

So, it'd be great if any other owners could chime in with what their L405 seat cooling is like.

Cheers

I don't feel the seat cooling is particularly strong, however have nothing to compare to.

The cooling effect isn’t as strong as the heating but I find it effective, after a few minutes I am usually having to turn the cooling down due to the effectiveness. Mine seem better than the cooled seats I had in my 7 series. 2013 SDV8 4.4 Vogue SE Aintree

Agree it’s weak and although the surface temperature of the leather is noticeably cooler, I can hardly feel any air movement. Comparing to a 997.2 Porsche where you could feel the wind comping through the seats 2018 P400e AB LWB

Cooled seats in my L405 have never cooled as well as those in my L322, which were pretty fierce. The current car seats do cool, but not as well.

mine are rubbish as well compared to the D5 i had.

the heating is awesome as is the massage but for cooling, better to sit on a bag of frozen peas.

I think JLR messed the seats up with the 15MY revisions... I think the Pre 15MY L405's have similar, if not the same seat heating/cooling system as the L322... Then JLR fixed lots of early model issues with the 15MY revision. Fixed lots of suspension issues amongst others, Changed the can-bus system etc etc etc...I suspect at this point they messed with the seats and messed the cooling aspect up...

Hope that helps sir? Thumbs Up

+1 agree with the above.

With my gym shorts on I find the cooling effect on the old Jacobs is adequate but move to jeans etc and it's pretty much undetectable. FFRR SDV8 Autobiography

This is my experience too, and my car now is a 2017 too.

It's a small thing though as we only have a few hot weeks a year here. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

Thanks for all the replies chaps - it’s very much appreciated.

Craig - I agree - they definitely seem to have messed things up with the later cars because the earlier 405’s seem to cool better. I first wondered if it was to do with all the massage stuff they put in the seats but the heating seems to work great for everyone - just the cooling that is weak. So I guess it rules that out, and also stuff like dirty filters or collapsed air ways in the seat cushions.

It’s not a massive issue though as the air con in the 405’s does seem pretty good at getting the temperature down quite quickly.

Anyway, thanks again everyone Thumbs Up
