PHEV issues.

I recently posted about the nasty habit of the system to start charging from the engine,
even if I did not ask for this ( "save" mode in EV..), and about 6 miles from home,
driving with the route planner on so it should know I'm about to plug in..

Now I have yet again an issue. Nothing to be read about in the users manual, leaves me
utterly oblivious over what could be wrong.

Leaving with a fully charged battery, it refuses to engage "EV" mode. I engage the EV-switch,
even put the car in "economy", but at most it gives a little EV-support. It charges when braking,
no alarm lights or info. Also not in the app..

Only thing remotely related could be really cold condition, like -20C or colder I guess , then it
gives an alarm that EV-mode is not available.

I just went on a short trip, 7C ambient. It should haver changed to EV since I did stretches of
20Mph in pedestrian zones..

Just received a phone call from the mechanic. Due to the defect in the highvoltage heater,
the car will not run full EV untill the engine has heated the cooling fluid..

So if you want to know if your heater is busted : check your travel log to see how many miles
it does as 'full EV' .. if your PHEV doesn't doe any FULL EV miles.. ..the heater is busted.. I-pace First Edition Santorini & 2nd car Mazda MX-30 Advantage red/black

You can charge on petrol.

This page from the online manual explains how to do that :

https://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/docume...1/G2146217

On the top center display swipe to the left, you will see a button "MY EV" .
If you touch it you will see a screen showing the drive status : ICE / EV / HYBRID / Charging..

On the right hand top you see a button 'store' or 'save' . Then the car keeps a part of the EV

capacity for later use, eg for a town. When you want to use that energy, you need to switch

store/save "off" again ! It then charges from the engine : you see the engine in brown,
indicating ICE mode, and the generator green : it charges the battery.

So essentially you’re saying when you’re not in save mode and you’re running the engine the battery should also charge? I did a 2000km trip recently and after the first 30km the battery went to zero and stayed that way. 2018 P400e AB LWB

It depends on many variables. If you turn onto the highway and drive 600km's at high speed with almost now braking then it does not charge at all, since all power is diverted to the wheels directly.

If you leave the display in my picture on, it might show occasional charging, if you release the throttle or go downhill, even driving on high speed.

What I experienced with "0%" charge, then once I slowed down to 100kmph, or turned off from the highway to 80kmph zone, it started charging the battery with the engine.

This is also to be seen when instantaneous fuel consumption that should be around 5-8 L /100km at that speed, goes to 12-16L / 100km. It generally stops when the charge level reaches 2%.

From that point you could 'drain' it again, since then 'EV-mode' can be forced again with the EV-switch.

I assume the design idea behind it is that you can silently approach your home or the garage of your appartment. I-pace First Edition Santorini & 2nd car Mazda MX-30 Advantage red/black

Interesting. So it certainly won’t charge the battery back up to 100%, regardless of distance driven, speed, or engine load? 2018 P400e AB LWB

I never tried, since its useless. With kwh at 20cnts on my present contract and 5 cnts from my solar cells, I avoid charging on fuel.

I guess the car consumes 200% when charging, and then it gives like 1 km EV-range every 4 km's charging. So you waste 3km's of fuel for every km of BEV range !

I think if you are desperate to find this out, you can go on a tour for 100km's and start off with the 'save' button on. Do use a planned route into a city, so tha car knows when you need the BEV-ability.

I never tried it as its obviously without merit to me. I-pace First Edition Santorini & 2nd car Mazda MX-30 Advantage red/black
