Height Sensors Am I doing it Wrong?

I changed the front left height sensor a couple of months ago and had to take the whole bracket off as the 2 bolts holding the sensor to the bracket just turned round in the thread as I was trying to unscrew them as if the brass thread in the plastic was turning as well

Well b$$$$er me and call me flopsy, I have just tried to change the rear left and I can get both bolts started quite easily but, while they will turn, they won't actually come out of the thread. Am I missing something fundamental or is it just bad luck, crappy parts and I need to get a hammer and chisel onto the darned thing, smash the plastic and then grip the threaded part? Actually I'm doing the bushes on Sunday so I should be able to get to it then but the temptation to go all mediaeval on it is very strong.

Thanks Dec 2021- 2010 Facelift TDV8 4.4 AB in Stornoway Grey.

I had exactly the same issue when I did my front left. Ended up cutting the old sensor off the bracket. Luckily I found bolts to go to the bracket, so fastened new sensor to old bracket with those. The bracket is over £100 from LR… I know as I rang them…. Though I think some aftermarket sensors might come with the brackets which would make the whole job easier… but with this fix, it’s best to stay with LR height sensors if you can.

The brass insert just spins in the moulded plastic…..

Same here; 30 mins under the car with a junior hacksaw to cut the sensor off the bracket. TDV8 4.4 2012

Still haven't done this yet-think I'll just smash the sensor off with a chisel and then attack the bolts. Any reason why I shouldn't do it this way?? Dec 2021- 2010 Facelift TDV8 4.4 AB in Stornoway Grey.

You can just unbolt the bracket with the sensor attached, and then attack it off the car. You need the bracket so don’t damage it. No reason to be faffing about laid on your back etc….

Unless you meant once you’ve unbolted it….. that’s what I did, though I did wreck the bolt heads trying to undo them. I replaced with nuts and bolts.

By the way I ended up using a powerfile sander on the bolt heads and 10 mins later it was off. Removing the bracket on the rear is a bigger job, using the powerfile made it a doodle once i got the angle right. Dec 2021- 2010 Facelift TDV8 4.4 AB in Stornoway Grey.
