Millers Eco Max fuel additive WARNING !!

I bought a 5 litre can of this additive about 3 years ago and have been adding to the fuel after every fill up, but today I noticed that it has suddenly changed colour, from clear to a very murky brown colour.

I have just spoken to a technical advisor at Millers about it and he has confirmed that it has a maximum shelf life of two years and not to use the rest of the can.

I bought the 5 litre can thinking I was saving money compared to the 500ml bottles but not aware of the limited life., so “ be aware “ !!

In truth Pete, NONE.

It was the owner at AJR in Oldham that talked me into using it.
He told me about two customers who had both regularly filled up with supermarket diesel who had both needed several injectors replaced at great cost and he had started using it his 4.4 tdV8 in the hope of prolonging their life.

Correlation is not causation. Any evidence this stuff actually works and by what mechanism (even what's actual in it) 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I always thought fuel additives were snake oil but some folk recon they help, I suppose, as long as they don't cause any damage then what harm does it do... Thumbs Up Pete

At the concentrations it's used in it can't do any harm but by the same token neither can it have any benefit. The only measurable and certain effect is that on your wallet Wink 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

I used it in 2 x new Astra Vans which covered in excess of 300k miles with nothing more than oil changes, same in a new MB Vito again excess of 300k miles with no issues. (Starting in the mid 80's).

Can't prove it works, but I do know several people who have had to have at least one set of injectors & other fuel system components within those miles.

No longer buying new vehicles but I use a drop of mineral two stroke oil in the fuel - remember that older diesel engines were designed to run on fuel that had sulphur in it to lubricate the fuel system - sulphur that is no longer in the fuel. Can't prove it either way but.........
